Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Technician will report directly to Principal Investigator Dr. Dan Dixon in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The applicant will be responsible for performing standard molecular biology techniques, cell culture, general laboratory maintenance, and performing experiments as requested by the supervisor. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in cell culture, Western Blots, PCR, RT-PCR, Flow Cytometry, and microscopy work. Candidates will need to be highly organized, flexible, and motivated. Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency are required. This research technician position will focus on chemoprevention of colorectal cancer. The lab will use both cell-based assays, animal models, genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics approaches.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma plus two years of experience working in a molecular/cellular biology lab or have experience in analyzing biological data sets.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Be proficient to work with cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques or be able to use R or Python to analyse biological data sets;
- Be willing to learn new skills and techniques;
- Be able to keep organized laboratory records and notes;
- Know how to use “Office”; (5) have good communication skills
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
- Performing research experiments, keeping experimental records
- Performs research experiments including cell culture, migration assays, Western Blots, PCR, Flow Cytometry, and microscopy work. Keeps descriptive and accurate records of all experiments performed, data entry and analysis.
- General laboratory maintenance
- These duties will include, (1) placing orders (obtaining quotes, filling and submitting ordering forms, tracking order status and receiving orders); (2) maintaining records of laboratory inventories (reagents and supplies)
- Training new laboratory personnel
- These duties will include, (1) training of new employees and/or students in basic laboratory techniques (2) overseeing staff compliance with the University, State and Federal guidelines for the safe operation of a laboratory.
- Performing related responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor
