Job description

As a Medical Consultant at IDEXX you will be responsible for providing clients with phone consultations regarding interpretation of laboratory results, diagnostic testing and treatment options. You will be responsible for consultation with our veterinary clients regarding interpretation of laboratory data and maintaining client satisfaction by responding to inquiries of testing procedures and results. A high level of importance is placed on quality, service, and timeliness.

In This Role:

Consulting Responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for phone and email consultations with clients regarding diagnostic testing, laboratory results (both IDEXX Reference Laboratory and from the IDEXX In-House Analyzers), treatment options and management of medical cases. You are expected to enter all information regarding consultations into the Customer Relationship Management System software.
  • You are aware of tests offered by IDEXX (Reference Labs and In-House diagnostic tests), specimen requirements, and clinical utility of each test and how to interpret results.
  • You know proper handling techniques of specimens for laboratory processing and interferences in the samples that may affect the test results.
  • You must be familiar with the IDEXX In-House Analyzers.
  • You are expected to efficiently fulfill the needs of our clients and meet the service requirements.
  • You are expected to maintain proficiency and continually develop medical knowledge base by self-study, attending scientific meetings, participation in internal continuing education, and maintaining familiarity with current literature.
  • This position reports to the Medical Consulting Supervisor.

Other duties as assigned and may include:

  • You develop and present seminars or other presentations to clients or IDEXX staff.
  • You may prepare newsletter articles to be included in IDEXX newsletters; you write or review laboratory diagnostic or service updates; or prepare other marketing, sales or promotional material.
  • You interact with Lab manager/Heads of departments (operations) to maintain TAT (turnaround time) etc., and provide medical input.
  • You interact with other IDEXX scientists to research or develop other IDEXX products or technologies.

What you will need to Succeed:

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine
  • Clinical experience (small animals) in a veterinary practice / clinic or academic institution.
  • Board Certification (or eligible for Board Certification) by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM) or American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) preferred. Alternatively, a Diploma/Certificate in e.g. Small Animal Medicine and/or extensive experience in a clinic or practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A service oriented attitude.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Computer skills and ability and desire to learn and develop required skills
  • adaptability and openness to change.
  • Familiarity with current topics in clinical veterinary medicine.
  • Very good language skills (German and English), further language skill preferred.

Location and hours

  • Full time remote employment in home office in a European time zone.
