Job description

UPMC is looking for a Network Security Design Engineer Associate to join their team. This position will be fully remote.

Description

A Network Security Design Engineer - Associate is responsible for planning, designing, optimizing, implementing, auditing, and troubleshooting the network security system to improve the organization’s efficiency. This is an entry-level position within the Network Security Design team. The candidate is expected to have a solid understanding of core IT knowledge in networking and firewalls and experience configuring and installing enterprise-grade firewalls.

Preferred Skills And Knowledge

  • Basic Networking and Security fundamentals: Associates need to understand the basics of networking and cybersecurity to assist in managing and securing the network. Skills should include TCP/IP, DNS, DCHP, BGP, basic configuration of firewalls, decryption, authentication, and malware detection.
  • Monitoring and Incident Response: Associate will need to analyze network activity logs to assist in incident responses. Skills should include SIEM experience, analyzing security logs and incidents, and assist end users in troubleshooting issues.
  • Problem solving: Associate will need to develop mitigation strategies to maintain a high level of network security

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, implementing, and monitoring the security arrangements for the protection of the enterprise systems.
  • Responsible for Tier 3 issues.
  • Determine, test, and deploy the latest technologies that improve the overall security.
  • Use industry standards to ensure our security platforms are hardened.
  • Work with various teams to ensure their applications and technologies are secure.
  • Ensure inventory levels are documented and maintained.

Qualifications

  • Typically has a 2-year academic degree and knowledge of Network Security through education or practical work experience.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP Network & Application Layer Firewall technologies.
  • Experience correlating unstructured data across various logs and other inputs.
  • Advanced knowledge and background in working through security issues facing larger organizations.
  • Work off hours to support as needed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

An associate-level certification (Cisco CCENT, Security+, Palo Alto PCCSA, etc.) is preferred.
