Manager, Medical Coding Integrity  Remote

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Manager, Medical Coding Integrity is responsible for reviewing completed quality assurance audits, identifying trends, creating and assigning education, and implementing action plans for improvement. These quality assurance audits may include, but not limited to, multiple service types (Inpatient, Skilled Nursing Facility, Same Day Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Observation, Emergency Department, Ancillary, Professional Fee, etc.), onboarding audits, regularly scheduled internal audits, or external billable client audits (as needed). This role will work with others to report quality results, track and trend of educational opportunities, and provide educational support and training.

 

The Medical Coding Integrity Manager is responsible for day-to-day operations, productivity, quality, education, employee management and development, and clients within a specific consultant or client group.The position may be involved in candidate hiring, employee production workflow management, consultant development, and disciplinary issues. The Supervisor builds solid, profitable relationships with clients through the delivery of exceptional customer service characterized by mutual respect, understanding, and trust. 

 

The Manager, Medical Coding Integrity will work as a subject matter expert and a knowledge source to the internal e4health team. This position will work with Senior Medical Coding Integrity Director and  Medical Coding Operations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Responsible for identification and implementation of quality improvement action plans for coding consultants
  • Collaborates with other team members to ensure action plans for coder improvement are completed within the Company LMS in a timely manner
  • Works with other team members to provide coding consultants educational content within the Company LMS in alignment with error trend
  • May complete regularly scheduled quality assurance reviews for clients as assigned
  • Communicates quality issues to management in a timely manner
  • Maintain reports and accuracy rates for coding consultants and clients in a timely manner
  • Respond to client QA needs at the direction of management
  • Performing billable duties when the needs arise to support the financial success of the business
  • Notifying management when there is a compliance concern or incident
  • Provide coding support to the business as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed with the project
  • Maintains required productivity and quality requirements
  • Demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of patient information
  • Promoting confidentiality and using discretion when handling patient information
  • Maintains coding credential requirements
  • Ensures direct reports maintain established customer service standards by overseeing and monitoring client facility operations 
  • Works with leadership to maintain benchmark quality standards within the assigned specific client group.
  • Monitors quality provides constructive feedback to employees regarding quality issues as needed and assists Leadership with developing performance improvement plans for underperforming employees to achieve company quality standards
  • Collaborates with leadership to maintain productivity benchmarks of consultants.
  • Assists in the development of site-specific baseline productivity standards utilizing reports to manage coder productivity.
  • Provide feedback and mentoring as needed to achieve productivity standards 
  • Assists leadership with implementation, compliance, tracking, and completion of coding education training to internal coding and auditing staff.
  • Keeps Leadership informed if any consultant is not complying or underperforming during established training milestones.
  • Attends meetings with Senior Leadership as requested 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate must possess an approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential
  • Minimum 7 years coding experience recommended; 5 years of IP/OP/ProFee coding in an acute care setting required
  • Minimum 4 years of auditing experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory/managerial experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of remote experience required
  • RHIA or RHIT required, or Bachelor’s degree in a related area required 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in inpatient coding, auditing, and/or project management required 
  • Experience with quality assurance reporting, tracking and trending, and assignment of educational material preferred 
  • Experience with multiple health facilities, provider practices, and vendor-related organizations is strongly preferred 
  • Experience with multiple electronic health records and billing systems required 
  • Extremely skilled with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability to build and manage spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations on a consistent basis 
  • Ability to track and trend data and perform data analysis 
  • Must communicate effectively at all levels inside and outside of the organization and express ideas and information clearly and concisely, in both verbal and written form

  • Maintains client retention and satisfaction. Responsive to client needs, anticipates problems, and takes action for resolution before they develop into significant customer issues/dissatisfaction as pertains to coding/CDI quality. Keeps Leadership informed of customer 
  • Responds to customer concerns in a timely and professional 
  • Escalates customer issues/concerns/problems in a proactive and timely manner to Leadership to resolve client 
  • Informs Leadership of new business opportunities with existing customers and provides input that will assist sales and others as appropriate to pursue and close such 
  • Assist with coordination of new account start-up in conjunction with Leadership

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sitting, talking, hearing and near vision are required over 90% of the time, while walking is required frequently throughout the day. Standing is required over 10% of the time. Feeling is required 90% of the time and reaching is required about 50% of the time. Bending, twisting and climbing are required, as in far vision, but only for 10% or less of the time. Low levels of lifting (10 pounds of less) is required about 25% of the time, while medium levels (20 to 40 pounds) of lifting and carrying are required less than 5% of the time. Ability to travel to field sites may be required up to 15% of the time.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Over 90% of the time is spent indoors, with protection from weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable is present in only unusual situations.
