Director, Cross Functional Engineering (data centers)

Job Summary

The Regional Data Center Operations team is looking for an experienced leader to provide operational support and direction. A successful Cross-Functional Engineering Director will develop standard operating policies, procedures, and manuals and play an active role in internal training. This role oversees key regional functional areas, including BMS control systems and asset management, and provides supplemental engineering site support as required to support critical facility uptime.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a diverse and inclusive cross-functional team that provides Asset Management expertise, Controls Systems expertise, Complex Project analysis, and raised site support for critical facility infrastructure

  • Ensure the team works safely, optimally, and with a focus on human error avoidance

  • Provide mentorship, direction, and support to help the team achieve its goals

  • Reviews and provides support of complex projects, ensuring alignment with regional and company goals

  • Ensure compliance with Equinix's required standards, critical metrics, and SLAs

  • Oversee accurate processes and complete documentation

  • Provides budget recommendations and manages to performance indicator goals

  • Act as a trusted advisor to cross-functional business leaders, anticipate needs and make recommendations based on industry knowledge

  • Collaborate with other global leaders to develop an operational strategy and be responsible for its implementation

  • Manage a team comprised of asset management, controls engineering, sustainability, and MEP engineering, which supports Site Operations within the region

  • Define objectives, provide performance counseling, mentorship, career development, and succession planning for your direct reports

  • Work with the Cross Functional Leader to forecast group operational training needs, establish plans, and secure resources for deploying training

  • Be the highest-level escalation point within the team for complex mechanical and electrical issues

Qualifications

  • Experience leading, encouraging, and developing a team of critical facility experts

  • Commitment to maintaining and improving continuous improvement processes and culture

  • 10+ years of experience managing critical facilities, strong preference for data center experience

  • Expertise in critical facility engineering, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems

  • Technical expertise in critical power and cooling systems, life safety, and environmental compliance

  • Ability to participate in regular meetings across time zones

  • Travel 25% across Canada

  • Bilingual French skills preferred
