As an Underwriter I a significant proportion of your responsibilities will support underwriting and servicing new and renewal business opportunities in support of the organization's strategic and business goals. You will work closely with underwriting and other departments including claims, loss control, operations, and business development.
What will some of your essential responsibilities include?
- Review and evaluate various applications for insurance coverage.
- Gathering underwriting information from various sources, file setup, underwriting analysis, issuing quotes, binders and policies, endorsements, certificates, and other documentation, ensuring timeliness and accuracy levels are met.
- Provide input on appropriate terms, premium charges, fees and taxes as applicable to the carrier.
- Support the process to quote, bind and prepare policies for issuance.
- Revise or amend quotes when requested, making changes within carrier guidelines.
- Assist with transaction billing and accounting / invoicing.
- Maintain records on a daily basis, of accounts bound and premiums.
- Assisting in compiling data into reports.
- Interacting with and supporting internal and external customers.
- Helping manage the day-to-day workflow: maintenance of electronic underwriting files and correspondence.
- Monitoring and following up on renewals, diaries, and other tasks.
- Demonstrating a proactive approach to suggesting improvement in work processes.
- Strive for excellence in service through meeting account service expectations and timely problem resolution.
- Works closely with underwriting team and support staff. Fosters supportive and collaborative team environment.
- Works with leadership to help prepare results, reports and other materials.
- Assists with underwriting audits and implementation of carrier recommendations.
- Interacts with agents/brokers as needed via phone, email and in person. Helps manage broker relations in alignment with business development strategy.
- Ensures processes are consistently meeting or exceeding customer and organization’s service level expectations.
- Is a brand ambassador, helps to advance the company’s reputation and position in the marketplace
- Displays professionalism and works with high ethical standards at all times.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Previous experience working within the aviation insurance environment and commercial insurance underwriting process.
- College graduate preferred and/or five to seven years prior experience within the insurance market.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.
- Solid technical skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and other computer systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as to work independently in a fast-paced environment requiring good judgment.
- Strong demonstration of initiative, interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor are critical.
- Client service experience and focus.
- A proven proactive approach to growing personal knowledge and skillset while supporting and improving the business through accurate and timely working habits.
