What You’ll Be Doing

CIBC Entertainment Banking provides strategic advice and funding to North American content creators at each stage of their production cycle..

As a the Director on the team, you will have a dual mandate.

First, you will focus on growing CIBC's Commercial Banking market presence in the film, TV and music space in North America. Your mandate will include relationship building and business development. You will work closely with the Credit and Services teams to execute client requests in an efficient and effective manner. Business Development in the Entertainment space will increase new relationships through a team approach to meet the credit and relationship needs of clients.

Second, As a Director on the team, you will be responsible for all aspects of underwriting, managing and reporting on client accounts. Your role will include regular monitoring of a portfolio of Innovation Banking loan accounts to ensure compliance with all agreed terms, analyzing due diligence results to validate lending eligibility, preparing credit applications and other credit correspondence, analyzing borrowers’ financial condition and account status, actively assisting with the negotiating of legal documentation.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Client First – Grow a number of customers in the Entertainment sector. Proactively assess your clients’ needs and propose solutions to deliver to meet those needs. Provide continued partnership and support to your clients through understanding their goals and objectives. Appropriately address borrowers’ requests in a timely manner and ensure that any related credit applications are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Credit Management –Prepare strong financing proposals (structuring terms and conditions including security, covenants and pricing) that properly reflect and compensate CIBC for assessed risk. Prepare draft recommendations on credit submissions and investment proposals to present to senior management. Conduct comprehensive due diligence on all transactions, including preparing credit memoranda and other credit correspondence in a well thought out, thorough and efficient manner. Work throughout the underwriting process for new transactions, complete credit correspondence, review documentation, set up reporting, etc.
  • Portfolio Management – Manage a portfolio of loan accounts while ensuring reporting requirements are met, financial covenant tests are completed, and comprehensive credit reviews are prepared and submitted to the risk group. Approve loan advances based on appropriate review and compliance of documents submitted by borrowers.
  • Management Reporting – Provide management with information on accounts, proactively report on problems or issues, complete reviews and present analysis on borrowers’ financial condition.
  • Coaching – Coach and mentor more junior members of the team

Who You Are

  • You demonstrate experience in commercial lending or adjudication and, strong knowledge of marketplace and loan structuring. This is experience may have been gained through a minimum of 6 years working in entertainment lending,  and/or commercial or corporate banking.
  • You give meaning to financial data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You have a good understanding of corporate finance and ability to evaluate and understand complex capital structures.
  • Education You've Completed. You have a Bachelors or equivalent degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Entertainment or related field. Advanced business degree or professional designation (MBA/CFA/CA/CGA/CMA) or equivalent work experience would be an asset.
