Job description

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way.

Americans for Prosperity is part of the Stand Together philanthropic community.

As the State Government Affairs Liaison, you will support AFP’s state teams in advancing policy initiatives across state capitols by building relationships and executing effective lobbying strategies.

How You Will Contribute
  • Develop and maintain relationships with state legislators, executive offices, and partners to advance AFP priorities
  • Provide liaison and resource support to state teams, coalitions, and elected officials
  • Monitor, research, and analyze legislative trends, tracking and addressing pending legislation
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create advocacy materials and offer political insights for initiatives
  • Advise state teams on legislative strategies and annual priorities
  • Represent AFP at events and meetings with state officials
  • Manage public-facing strategies and oversee a portfolio of national policy issues

  • What You Will Bring
  • 3+ years in a government, legislative, political, or advocacy role
  • Customer-focused attitude and proven strategic execution
  • Strong relationships with state officials and/or partner groups
  • Passion for and knowledge of state policy and political landscapes
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills—ability to offer and build bottom-up solutions
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and presentation abilities.
  • Willingness to share and develop government affairs best practices and knowledge through internal and external trainings
  • Excited by and ready to contribute to our Culture
  • Openness to travel up to 50% of the time

  • What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits including:  6% 401(k) match with immediate vest, flexible time off policy, health and dental plan options, and free access to wellness services through Peloton and Talkspace.
  • A meaningful career and a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving the lives of others.
  • Opportunities for professional development and mentorship based on impact, not tenure, including a year-long onboarding program with multiple chances for in-person collaboration and travel to our Arlington, VA headquarters.
  • Competitive salaries and bonus opportunity. Our compensation approach is aligned to the value you create, not a standardized bell curve.
  • Our Values: Working at Stand Together is different from many other organizations. Our culture is deeply rooted in Principle Based Management® (PBM®), a framework guided by the principles that drive human progress, such as dignity, openness, and bottom-up empowerment. PBM® empowers our employees to be entrepreneurial, to innovate, and to continually drive transformation.
