About you and this role

The Reactive Relief Front End Loading (FEL) Expert screens incoming work requests to determine if Reactive Relief Design (RRD) services are needed. This global role involves applying advanced RRD methods, completing FEL designs, managing resources, and reviewing work products. The expert serves as the key contact between the RRD group and business clients, assigning resources and working with outside contractors if necessary. The role requires excellent technical capabilities, project leadership skills, and effective interaction with various stakeholders to ensure safe and cost-effective process safety systems. Additionally, the expert provides technical mentoring and assists with the development of Most Effective Technology (MET) and work processes for RRD methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Screen incoming work requests and collaborate with clients to gather necessary information.
  • Complete Front End Loading (FEL) to define the path forward for reactive relief projects.
  • Provide technical expertise for Overpressure Protection, including developing and maintaining the Most Effective Technology (MET), delivering training, reviewing work, and assisting with technology development projects.
  • Execute complex studies and oversee externally contracted studies.
  • Develop and coach designers or other successors, ensuring the next generation of experts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Over 12 years of relevant experience, including knowledge and skills required for this job. At least 5 years of experience in overpressure protection, specifically with Dow Inc.'s specialized methodology. 5 years of experience in reviewing and approving reactive relief reports and related work products.
  • Proficiency with specialized software such as Runaway Reaction Simulation Program (RRSP), Runaway Reaction Emergency Relief Sizing Program (RRERSP), ASPEN, Fauske Emergency Relief System Tool (FERST), SuperChems, and Omega methods.
  • Analytical Thinking, Problem-Solving, Communication Skills, Project Management, Technical Writing, Team Leadership

Preferred Skills

  • Highly desired: Lead process engineering or project leadership experience.
  • Broad engineering knowledge across a wide range of unit operations.
  • Experience in multiple Dow work processes, including Reactive Relief, Global Project Methodology (GPM), Process Engineering Work Process Discipline (PE WPD), and Technology Implementation for Competitive Advantage (TICA).
