Job description

With that said, we're on the lookout for an enthusiastic product manager to join the Apify Store team. Your role will involve being the driving force behind our Actors, while also helping create an exceptional overall user experience and upgrading Apify Store

What you will do:

You will be responsible for two key areas within Apify Store:

Community: Drive engagement with our external developers, extract insights from their feedback, and transform them into product wins.

Actors: Take the helm of our Apify-maintained Actors (think Zillow, Indeed, TripAdvisor, Booking) and guide their evolution. You'll be the brain behind their strategy, roadmap, and market fit - no dev team attached, so bring your problem-solving spirit! A little more detail:

  • Manage a portfolio of Apify-maintained Actors in Store, acting as a bridge between users and devs. Work closely with the Actor development team to address user needs and align on the product vision for each Actor.
  • Regularly check and triage issues with Actors, identify effective 90/10 solutions, and cooperate with other Actor owners to ensure necessary fixes are implemented.
  • Actively engage with users through calls and other interactions to understand their needs, gather feedback, and evaluate opportunities for improvement.
  • Use monitoring tools to track Actor performance data, spot trends, and identify areas for optimization.
  • Participate in strategic discussions on Apify Store's direction with the Head of Store and other stakeholders, contributing insights to shape marketing strategies and collaborating with the marketing team for effective execution.
  • Contribute to helping Apify Store become a place where both Apify-maintained and community Actors thrive. You’ll bring innovative ideas for our tools, improve testing processes, and streamline workflows.
  • Partner with our dev community to shape product decisions, gather feedback, and build an open environment where ideas flow freely.
  • Lead quality control for community Actors: evaluate new submissions and strategically select top performers for promotion.
  • Guide developers from onboarding to success: advise on monetization strategies, navigate documentation, and provide hands-on support to both veteran and new publishers
  • Gather insights from developers about the platform’s strengths and pain points.
  • Conduct surveys or interviews to identify unmet needs.
  • Connect developers for collaborative projects and cross-Actor initiatives.
  • Monitor and address platform integrity by preventing plagiarism and misuse.

They say there are no perfect candidates, but you might be perfect if you:

  • Have at least essential product management know-how.
  • You can work with data, and you’re familiar with metrics in product management.
  • Have at least basic knowledge of JavaScript/Typescript/any programming language.
  • Are familiar with GitHub and ZenHub.
  • Have an interest in tech product management and development.
  • You have stellar English skills - both spoken and written.
  • Have excellent communication skills with a positive, self-starter attitude.
  • Able to work full-time and ideally come to the office weekly to meet the team in person.
  • But most of all, you are an avid learner, self-directed, independent, and driven person who is looking to grow your expertise.

First month:

  • Familiarize yourself with the Apify platform and Apify Store, distinguishing between Apify-managed and community Actors.
  • Onboard and acquaint yourself with various Apify teams, including Engineering, Delivery, Growth, Data, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Initiate onboarding within your designated Actor group, gain an understanding of scraped websites, familiarize yourself with the Actor teams, and undergo technical training.
  • Acquire proficiency with essential Apify tools such as Apify Console, GitHub, ZenHub, etc.

Months 2-4:

  • Onboarded into customer calls and take your first calls on your own.
  • Get familiar with data metrics and concepts relevant to your Actors, monitoring them regularly and drawing insightful conclusions.
  • Together with developers from your team, you will actively manage user issues with your Actors and gather valuable user insights.
  • Collaborate in sprint planning for your Actor team in coordination with the Actor Lead Developer.
  • Proactively engage in Apify Store team meetings and discussions and contribute - we thrive on active collaboration.
  • Together with the Product Marketing Manager, work on marketing strategy for your Actors.

4 months and beyond:

  • Take full ownership of your Actors and drive them for excellence - own the vision, roadmap, and growth.
  • Take charge of an additional area outside your Actor group, independently managing and driving initiatives (e.g., collaboration with the Support Team).
  • Proactively identify opportunities for product improvement and lead initiatives to implement them.
  • Keep growing! Commit to product learning and personal growth to keep pushing your skills forward in the role.
  • Understand the competition for your Actors within Apify Store and among our competitors.
