FORTNA is seeking qualified and highly motivated Commissioning Engineers to join our team.  We are searching for aggressive candidates who desire a challenging career filled with creativity and innovation.   

 

This position involves heavy travel (50-75%) to commission, test and verify new conveyor automation systems throughout the U.S.  This is a great opportunity for junior engineers who are ready to start a rewarding pathway to other areas of automation such as control system design, panel design, and power distribution. 

 

TASKS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Debug various automation systems. 

  • System and I/O Checkout. 

  • Support Controls and PLC checkout. 

  • Test system performance. 

  • Lead teams of commissioning Engineers. 

  • Verification and validation of engineered systems to meet design and customer specifications. 

  • Interface with clients and subcontractors and resolve problems and issues satisfactorily. 

  • Design pre-punched enclosures and subpanels utilizing AutoCAD. 

  • Create and update project “workbook,” pre-check electrical drawings for accuracy/completeness, UL requirements prior to installation and material ordering. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience in commissioning related field. 

  • 1-3 years’ experience in automation, control system design, I/O Checkout. 

  • Knowledgeable of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles. 

  • Significant electrical aptitude and knowledge of acceptable practices, techniques, and codes. 

  • VFD experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens or Schneider is a plus but not required. 

  • PLC experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix & CompactLogix), Modicon and Siemens (S7) is a plus but not required. 

  • HMI experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Wonderware, Ignition and WinCC is a plus but not required. 

  • AutoCAD experience to create electrical drawings and schematics. 

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, verbal, and written skills. 

  • Skills in AutoCAD, MS Office suite and MS Project. 

  • Ability to deal with experienced, multidisciplinary, technical specialists. 

  • Ability to coordinate small to large projects and teams independently, and make quality decisions. 

  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems for industrial applications. 

  • Skilled with AutoCAD and design of electrical panels, creating electrical drawings and schematics. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  This job operates primarily in industrial customer project sitesSafe working practices and awareness of the environment is essential.  

 

TRAVEL:  Generally, this position requires up to 50-70% travel to various sites.
