Job description

Every day we tackle new and exciting challenges to empower developers to build modern cloud, mobile, and edge applications that deliver a premium user experience. Couchbase delivers unmatched performance, scalability, flexibility and financial value across cloud, on premises, hybrid, mobile and edge deployments. The database market is undergoing a generational shift and is one of the largest market opportunities in enterprise software due to big trends like the need for digital transformation, acceleration to the cloud and innovation at the edge. Join Couchbase to be a part of a greater change. Here you’ll have the opportunity to learn and grow with some of the most innovative, passionate and humble individuals in the database industry.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Product Manager, Developer Ecosystem & Integra to lead our efforts in making Couchbase the most developer-friendly database platform in the industry for building cloud and edge applications. This role will be crucial in enabling developers to build the next generation of applications with Couchbase by simplifying integration and expanding support within the broader developer ecosystem. You will work on defining and delivering the tools, APIs, and open-source integrations that empower developers to leverage Couchbase effectively.

Location: This is a remote role based in India

Key Responsibilities:

  • Simplify DevOps: Expand the DevOps automation of Couchbase’s  managed DBaaS offering, by enhancing our Terraform Provider and Management APIs. In this role, you will define and standardize API design patterns for management and data access, focusing on REST and gRPC, to ensure consistency and ease of use, enabling developers to efficiently interact with Couchbase services.
  • Developer Ecosystem Insight: Develop a deep understanding of developer ecosystems and best practices as they relate to building applications with distributed databases for both the cloud and edge, keeping Couchbase relevant to evolving industry standards
  • Roadmap Ownership for Developer Tools & Integrations: Manage and prioritize the roadmap for open-source, Couchbase community-supported developer tools and plugins, working closely with the Couchbase community and engineering teams in driving the roadmap.
  • AI Frameworks: Build expertise in evolving AI application frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex), no-code/low-code tooling and apply this knowledge to enable developers using Couchbase as a backend for modern, AI-driven applications.
  • Partnerships: Engage with and support partners building third-party integrations with Couchbase APIs and SDKs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering (for open-source integrations), partnerships, and PM counterparts focused on SDKs and connectors.
  • Go-to-Market: Work closely with product marketing and community teams to position Couchbase as the go-to platform for developers needing robust, scalable, and easy-to-manage database solutions. Leverage your background in software development to better empathize with developers' needs, drawing on experience in building applications across web and mobile platforms.
  • Open Source Engagement: Stay engaged with the open-source community, actively monitoring trends, innovations, and tools that are capturing developers’ attention, and drive relevant initiatives to enhance Couchbase’s appeal.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in product management or engineering, with a focus on building distributed software applications, ideally involving distributed databases.
  • Hands-on experience in developing backend or mobile applications across multiple programming languages; adept at prototyping applications with various integrations, plugins, and IDE extensions.
  • Strong grasp of API design principles (e.g., REST, gRPC) and familiarity with standards like OpenAPI specifications.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Proficiency with event-driven or pub-sub architectures and technologies, such as Kafka, Redpanda, Solace, Apache Flink, or MQTT.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, developer relations, and product teams.
  • Quick to learn new platform features as they evolve, ensuring they are accessible and intuitive for developers through APIs and integrations.
  • Passion for staying current with trends in open-source and developer ecosystems.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of trends in building Generative AI applications, including hands-on experience with frameworks like LangChain and LlamaIndex.
  • Familiarity with AIoT technologies, such as AWS IoT Greengrass and Azure IoT Cloud.
