We have an exciting opportunity open for a Manager, Mergers, Acquisitions & Market Development based in Portland, ME.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Peaks is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking professional to help identify M&A and origination opportunities that sit on the forefront of thermal decarbonization. This role will report to the Senior Director, M&A and Commercial Strategy and will help lead Peaks effort in identifying and assessing potential business opportunities in Renewable Natural Gas and Hydrogen. The Program Manager, Mergers, Acquisitions & Market Development will lead origination, diligence, and deal structuring for potential acquisitions. They will be responsible for research, costing, evaluation, and implementation of corporate strategy and growth initiatives for Peaks, including M&A, partnerships, financial structuring, and new technology, feedstock, and commercial opportunities for the Peaks enterprise.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and oversee execution of Peaks’ M&A strategy including but not limited to:
- Diligence of M&A diligence efforts.
- Qualitative and quantitative research and modeling new investment opportunities (M&A, greenfield expansion, new products / services).
- Developing and overseeing a system for prioritizing M&A targets,
- Exploration of tax credits and grants to aid in project economics,
- Strategy development around new feedstock opportunities or business areas adjacent to Peaks current opportunities, and identification of potential development partners.
- Support FP&A group with valuation modeling for such initiatives.
- Lead business development teams with the pursuit of targeted opportunities as needed.
- Interface with Summit Utilities leadership team and corporate ownership around economic and strategic justification for M&A opportunities
- Identify and analyze the major risks affecting individual investment opportunities as well as current operations.
- Assist with the development of Risk Committee presentations, regular corporate data reporting and Board presentations.
- Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of developments in the fields of renewable natural gas, hydrogen, business, finance, and economic theory.
- Collaborates with all levels of Company management to identify key business issues, outline strategic alternatives, and build consensus in support of commercial opportunities.
- Develop processes around M&A and market development opportunities to transfer knowledge across business functions, report back on progress, implement recommendations across business functions, and outline key strategic priorities for the organization.
- Lead interaction with Treasury and FP&A function to implement financial structuring to benefit project economics including debt issuance and credit support, tax credits, and private and government grants.
- Identify various market opportunities for the sale of RNG and its associated ancillary byproducts such as CO2, fertilizer, compost, and digestate.
- Originate and manage commercial relationships in the various markets.
- Lead negotiation for environmental and ancillary product sales, ensuring equitable, win-win outcomes for all parties.
- Serve as a representative of Peaks at industry trade associations such as the American Biogas Council and Renewable Natural Gas Coalition and attend industry conferences broadening our network and deepening connections with a diverse array of partners.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Director, M&A and Commercial Strategy or the Chief Operating Officer, with flexibility and a team-oriented approach.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- MBA in Corporate Strategy or Finance preferred.
- 7-10 years business development / corporate strategy experience with a utility or energy-related company, strategy consulting firm or investment bank. Transaction experience critical.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Strong skills in corporate strategy, business development, research, and critical thinking
- Ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis with the proven ability to communicate complex concepts and data in an understandable manner to all levels of management and staff.
- Experience within the Energy industry, especially renewable natural gas project development companies.
- Demonstrated success in consulting effectively with all levels of management including executives.
- Must possess the ability to influence others without direct position power to earn credibility and trust.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and meticulous analytical capability
- Highly proficient in all Microsoft Office suites of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects successfully and independently while maintaining an even-keel approach and commitment to deadlines.
