Job description

Build new platforms to unlock knowledge and enable change
About Us

The Future Evidence Foundation is revolutionising how the world creates and uses trustworthy knowledge. Through our Covidence platform and innovative approaches to evidence synthesis, we're making research actionable globally.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a software engineer to join a newly formed team focused on building large-scale platforms to power evidence synthesis globally. You’ll join a small team, focused on bringing impactful solutions to life quickly.

We’ve recently partnered with organisations supporting research across Climate & Health as well as other life-saving health interventions. This role supports our investment into these important projects and will continue to build platforms that support the broader research community

You’ll get to:
  • Build greenfield systems that accelerate thousands of researchers
  • Contribute to the architecture and operation of data systems
  • Work to refine the team’s processes to increase our impact
  • Be part of a small, tightly knit team that values trust and respect for one another
What you bring:
  • Experience building data-intensive systems and APIs
  • Strong knowledge of queuing systems, orchestrators, and messaging architectures
  • A pragmatic approach to building “just enough” to bring value quickly
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
Technology stack:

We’re only just getting started, but we’re guessing these are the kinds of tools we’ll need. You don’t need to be deeply experienced in all of these, but some exposure to them will be advantageous.

  • Python & FastAPI with some Pydantic
  • Pandas/Polars/NumPy and friends
  • PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch as appropriate
  • Azure
  • Terraform
  • OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Continuous Integration - Buildkite/GitHub Actions
The Perks
  • Competitive salaries relevant to your experience level, reviewed twice yearly.
  • Remote team so you can live and work anywhere as long as you can offer a 4-hour workday crossover with the AEST time zone.
  • Work week flexibility - Full time, part time or explore a flexible arrangement with us that best suits you and us.
  • Gifted time off between Christmas and New Years Eve, and the option to purchase 3 more weeks pro rata.
  • Support for parents with 14 weeks paid primary carers leave and 8 weeks paid leave for partners, available after only 6 months tenure.
  • Access to wellbeing services & programs to support your wellbeing.
  • A knowledge allowance and time so you keep learning and developing.
  • Monthly home allowance to set up and run your home office.
How do I apply?

If you are interested in this opportunity, please hit APPLY and send us through your resume or LinkedIn profile so we can get a feel for your background and experience.

We’ll be back in touch with you promptly. Should we proceed further you can expect 3 remote interviews with us so we can get to know you and vice versa.

In a hurry? We can speed this process up if needed - just let us know!
