Summary

Individuals in this position will begin as an Operator Trainee and will be expected to successfully train throughout different operational areas within the plant. Individuals execute all tasks and activities in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Employees are also expected to provide leadership in process, organizational, and personnel improvement efforts. Employees will also perform at a high level in positively relating to others as an individual contributor in a team environment. Be a proactive maintenance and operations partner, identifying process and equipment vulnerabilities and notifying the appropriate stakeholders for resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strengthen and improve safety in the workplace through compliance with rules and regulations, safety, inspections, training, and PPE requirements.
  • Ensure environmental compliance through proper knowledge and execution of all activities. Report hazards, near misses, and incidents to the shift Supervisor. Support the shift Supervisor by providing information to complete preliminary investigations into incidents.
  • Safely operate Manufacturing Equipment (both process and/or mobile) and perform required inspections of assigned areas of responsibility. 
  • Maintain good lines of communication among Operators, Crews, shift Supervisors, and management throughout the shift. Escalate safety, environmental, and production issues or any other concerns to the shift Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Conduct and/or ensure completion of various hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, tests, audits, and housekeeping activities. Use knowledge to determine and/or recommend next course of action.
  • Work with stakeholders to build process knowledge, troubleshoot common problems, and discuss opportunities with Supervisor to reduce risk and minimize breakdowns.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures; take ownership and participate in all required safety training, safety meetings and complete all online trainings timely.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping as required by policies and procedures. Complete and submit required paperwork/reports in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for always maintaining a clean and safe environment throughout the production plant areas.
  • Effectively function within a team environment or work as an individual contributor.
  • Participate on Health, Safety and Environmental teams to continuously improve the work environment is highly encouraged.
  • Maintain full awareness of emergency response procedures. 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 
  • Position will perform heavy labor tasks until operator openings occur and then advance through ladders of progression within the organization.
  • This position works a variety of schedules including day shift and shift work is required.
Typical Education
  • Minimum High school diploma or GED.  Understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and technical writing a plus.
Relevant Experience
  • 2 years previous work experience in a heavy industrial setting OR equivalent technical training/certification OR a combination of work experience and technical training/certification OR previous work experience for Simplot Company will be considered.
  • Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English to understand work instructions and document results.
  • Able to write and follow technical standard operating procedures (SOPs).  
  • Able to understand and follow process flow diagrams, understand simple chemical reactions, equations, and possess a basic understanding of mechanical machinery and the operating principles of control systems.
  • Proven strong attendance, flexible with work schedules and open to overtime. 
  • Ability to work shift work including holidays.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, possibly for up to 12 hours.
  • Experience in emergency response, hazmat also desirable.
