What would you do? Our BC/DR Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing large-scale Backup and Disaster Recovery infrastructures, specifically focusing on Veeam Cloud Connect and Zerto, to service Opti9 Technologies’ Resellers and End Users. This position also plays a critical role in business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) planning, infrastructure planning and maintenance, and assisting with escalated customer support requests. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of backup and disaster recovery technologies, cloud infrastructure, hyper-scalers (AWS/Azure/GCP), and industry best practices, ensuring operational resilience for our customers. 

Primary Responsibilities:  

           Backup and Replication Infrastructure Maintenance: 

  • Manage and maintain a large-scale Veeam Cloud Connect infrastructure that includes Gateways, Proxies and Scale-Out Backup Repositories 

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize large Zerto environments, including ZCMs, ZVMs, VRAs, and VPGs, ensuring they meet customer disaster recovery objectives 

  • Manage and maintain large-scale Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 environments 

  • Monitor performance and availability of Veeam and Zerto environments, addressing any potential bottlenecks or issues 

  • Conduct regular health checks on backup systems, troubleshoot issues, and escalate to higher-level and/or vendor support when necessary 

  • Ensure system stability by performing timely software upgrades on both Veeam and Zerto platforms 

    Best Practices Implementation: 

  • Apply industry best practices for patching and maintaining Veeam and Zerto platforms, ensuring minimal downtime 

  • Follow established internal management processes, ensuring all critical security patches are applied promptly without disrupting services 

  • Follow established internal best practices for data backup, replication, and recovery, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of a disaster 

    Disaster Recovery Planning: 

  • Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity for both Opti9 Technologies and its customers 

  • Collaborate with customers to implement tailored disaster recovery solutions that meet their RTOs and RPOs 

  • Periodically perform internal and/or customer disaster recovery tests to ensure full compliance and effectiveness of business continuity and disaster recovery plans 

  • Provide technical guidance on disaster recovery strategies using Zerto and Veeam for replication and failover 

    Customer Support & Escalations: 

  • Serve as a technical escalation point for Opti9’s front-line support (NOC) for Veeam and Zerto platforms 

  • Work closely with the Opti9’s front-line support team, customers, and vendors directly to troubleshoot and resolve customer backup and disaster recovery issues in a timely and efficient manner 

  • Escalate complex troubleshooting issues as needed to Opti9 Level 2 and higher and/or vendor support to ensure a high level of service 

    Customer Implementations: 

  • Assist in the onboarding and implementation of new customers, configuring Veeam and Zerto environments as per customer requirements 

  • Engage with customers to understand their unique needs and provide expert advice on the best solutions to meet those needs 

  • Provide guidance to both customers and internal teams regarding the use of Veeam and Zerto for disaster recovery 

    Documentation & Reporting: 

  • Update existing documentation of internal system configurations, procedures, and issues for internal reference and customer reports 

  • Assist with generation of client specific documentation and configurations as required 

  • Generate reports following Opti9’s SOPs on backup performance, incidents, and compliance with recovery objectives 

Required Qualifications: 

           Education & Certifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience 

  • Veeam (e.g., Veeam Certified Engineer – VMCE) and Zerto (e.g., Zerto Certified Professional) preferred but not required 

  • Relevant industry certifications are a plus 

  • Certification training opportunities available 

    Experience: 

  • 2+ years of experience in a backup and disaster recovery engineering role 

  • Hands-on experience with Veeam Cloud Connect, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Zerto, including backup, replication, and failover management preferred 

  • Experience working in cloud-based environments (Azure, AWS, or private clouds) preferred 

    Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V 

  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and experience with disaster recovery networking considerations 

  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server administration 

    Soft Skills: 

  • Friendly and approachable, it’s easy for you to connect with both colleagues and clients 

  • Positive attitude, even in challenging situations such as real-world disaster scenarios 

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with customers and internal teams

  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on maintaining uptime and meeting service level agreements
