Job description

At Movement Labs, we are leading the way in blockchain technology with an open modular framework for building and deploying Move-based infrastructure, applications, and blockchains in any distributed environment. As our Vice President of Engineering, you will take a critical leadership role, overseeing all aspects of engineering, from strategy and execution to team development and culture. You will work closely with the leadership team to drive innovation, scalability, and operational excellence, ensuring our engineering function aligns with and supports the company’s ambitious goals.

We are seeking an experienced and visionary engineering leader to lead our diverse team of engineers, researchers, and developer relations engineers. As VP of Engineering, you will set the strategic technical direction, foster a high-performance culture, and drive execution of complex, multi-disciplinary projects. This role is critical to shaping our engineering standards, building organizational capacity, and ensuring alignment between our business objectives and technical capabilities.

You Will:
  • Lead and Inspire: Build, mentor, and empower a world-class engineering organization that spans multiple time zones

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with Movement Labs’ mission and business objectives

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Developer Relations, Business Development, Marketing, Legal, and other teams to align technical priorities with business needs

  • Operational Excellence: Drive roadmap planning, project execution, and delivery of high-quality solutions on time and within budget

  • Culture Building: Foster a collaborative, innovative, and accountable engineering culture grounded by our Values of ownership, integrity, grit, respect, and solution-driven focus.

  • Team Development: Establish systems for performance monitoring, professional growth, and retention of top engineering talent

  • Recruitment: Partner with Talent Acquisition to attract and hire exceptional engineering talent, scaling the team effectively as the company grows

  • Technical Oversight: Provide guidance on architecture, tools, and technologies to ensure scalability, security, and long-term success.

You Have:
  • Proven Leadership: 10+ years of experience in engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles such as Director, VP, or CTO in high-growth startups or technology organizations

  • Technical Expertise: Strong technical background, ideally with experience in blockchain technologies, distributed systems, or other deep technical domains

  • Global Experience: Experience managing and scaling teams across multiple time zones and cultural contexts

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to align engineering priorities with business strategy and translate them into actionable roadmaps

  • Operational Excellence: Demonstrated success in implementing processes, systems, and metrics to drive efficiency and effectiveness across engineering teams.

You May Have:
  • Experience with Rust, Go, or other modern programming languages

  • Deep understanding of blockchain protocols, smart contract development, or decentralized application (dApp) ecosystems

  • Proven ability to scale teams and engineering organizations from 0-1

  • A track record of leading engineering organizations through hypergrowth while maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.
