ICBC’s actuaries primarily work in two areas: Insurance Pricing and Corporate Actuarial. Insurance Pricing has responsibility for overall rate recommendations for both Basic and Optional Insurance products, rate design, program evaluation, and other insurance modeling projects. Corporate Actuarial has responsibility for the estimation of ICBC’s IBNR reserves, analyzing claims data and other relevant factors to identify future claims trends, financial reporting (discounting of unpaid claims, ULAE reserve), and capital adequacy testing to determine ICBC’s internal capital management MCT targets.
We currently have an opportunity for an Actuarial Analyst II to join our Reinsurance & Rating Maintenance team in the Insurance division. As an Actuarial Analyst II, you will have work on a variety of areas including:
- Assist with insurance modeling/pricing analysis and reinsurance renewal process.
- Assist with ongoing rating maintenance including rate group assignment.
- Support manager/supervisor to deliver optimal service to internal and external customers.
- Performs pricing analysis with appropriate data, assumptions and methods under guidance from supervisor. Present analysis results to internal and external customers (manager level) in understandable terms.
- Understand and translate vague requests for analysis into specific terms.
- Conduct data reasonability checks, ad hoc investigations, and remedies simple data issues.
- Mentor junior analysts.
- Conduct peer reviews of other analysts work to ensure accuracy and compliance to standards.
- Identify opportunities for improvement to analytical work.
Job Requirements
- You have a post-secondary degree and a solid knowledge of actuarial principles along with at least two years' pricing experience across various actuarial work areas.
- You have completed at least four actuarial exams, and you are actively pursuing your Fellowship with the CAS (or equivalent organization).
- Team player, excellent verbal and written communication skills, solid analytical skills and critical thinking
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and SQL are required, while experience with Python, Spark, VBA, and SAS would be beneficial

Work arrangements defined:
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
