Job Duties:
Supervises the operations and team of Central Sterile Supply. Maintains departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, including Joint Commission and Department of Health. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. The care of the instrumentation used in the operating room, clinic, emergency department and elsewhere in the institution is the responsibility of the Sterile Processing department.
- Supervises team members and operations.
- Actively participates in the development of and demonstrates thorough knowledge of the department and system goals and function.
- Establishes internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with set standards.
- Monitors these levels for proper utilization.
- Anticipates the availability of appropriate resource materials and personnel needed.
- Identifies, analyzes, interprets and acts on related problems within customer departments, as they pertain to Central Sterile Supply.
- Ensures established procedures and standards of practice are followed for decontamination, cleaning, inspection, processing and sterilization of reusable supplies and equipment.
- Provides instructions and in-service in new products, procedures, case cart preparation, and equipment.
- Maintains effective communication with appropriate nursing and medical center personnel, as relates to assigned duties.
- Oversees preparation and maintenance of the instrument asset inventory.
- Organizes department activity and workflow appropriately.
- Rounds in the Operating Room and throughout the department each shift to assess what is being utilized and anticipates needs.
- Prioritizes instruments that are needed from preference cards, surgical schedule and emergent and trauma preparedness.
- Assesses and understands the competencies of each member of staff and develops appropriate Performance Improvement program to identify and address weaknesses.
- Maintains sterilization records and related data in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Performs ongoing evaluations of teams, the required services for the surgical suite, inpatient and outpatient units, and equipment and methods.
- Coordinates with hospital maintenance and contractor representatives to assure that all equipment and installations are in proper operating condition.
- Provides a comprehensive department orientation to all new personnel and required training to all staff on an ongoing basis.
- Assures safe working environment for all employees and visitors, utilizing knowledge of hazardous gases and substances, and environmental conditions.
- Directs all housekeeping activities within the department.
- Supports budget preparation with administrative leadership; operates within budgetary guidelines.
- Monitors operational budget for opportunities for fiscal improvement.
- Coordinates the interviewing of new and replacement employees.
- Assures full compliance with regulatory agency mandates and recommendations.
- Oversees the development and updating of policies and procedures.
- Ensures that the patient safety improvement and management program will be given high priority and will support the program.
- Ensures that sufficient time is available for staff participation in patient safety activities at both the department and organizational level.
- Ensures that staff attends all required patient safety education programs.
- Counsels team when necessary.

Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required), Associate's Degree- (Preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years-Related work experience (Required), Minimum of 1 year-Managerial/Supervisory (Preferred)
Certification(s) and License(s):
Certified Sterile Processing Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
