We’re looking for senior engineering leaders to take on the role of Head of Engineering for the OLX EU Real Estate team.

In this role, you can work fully remotely as long as you live in Poland. 

Your day-to-day at OLX

Reporting to the Director of Engineering for OLX Real Estate, you will lead and support the engineering roles (20+) of the product teams responsible for building capabilities to allow our users to interact with our platforms and get the best user experience in the market.

You will have the responsibility to co-lead the product development teams together with the Head of Product, form/continue a technology strategy and architecture vision, as well as the day-to-day delivery of your teams, supporting and enhancing the OLX engineering culture, growing the team and its capabilities and working with your peers to ensure business success, identifying shared capabilities and opportunities to improve.

You must partner closely with peers in Product, Design, and Data, as we expect to influence our product direction and roadmap driven by technology trends and innovation. You work closely with other engineering leads and stakeholders, supporting the scale of many capabilities and products. You will be responsible for both large step-change product innovation and continued, high-velocity incremental feature development, helping deliver value to our customers that they happily pay for seamlessly.

Your experience should include strong leadership skills evidenced by an ability to inspire engineering teams through clear communication and technical excellence, following best practices, and strongly influencing architecture and system design with low coupling/high cohesion practices in mind—use of tools to achieve the best outcome (build vs buy decisions). You must be familiar with current technologies and tools and feel comfortable making difficult technical decisions to improve major aspects of our solutions and the user experience.

  • Manager of managers with experience in building and scaling engineering teams (20+ people), ideally across multiple locations or remotely;
  • Tenured people manager, able to set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews to support the growth and development of engineers.
  • Negotiation skills, tenured in resolving conflicts and reaching agreements with various parties.
  • Experienced overseeing the execution of product development and engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Strong business acumen and experience in customer-facing platforms. 
  • Vast experience in building scalable products. Experience in high-scale migrations is highly welcome for this role—a deep understanding of building high-traffic, large-scale Internet applications.
  • Strong technical background and a good understanding of current technology trends relevant to the company's domain.
  • Experience with architectures that foster high cohesion/low coupling with reduced complexity in a cloud-based environment (AWS, using Kubernetes).
  • Good understanding and ideally successful application of AI/ML.
  • Experience in building an engineering culture in an agile, lean & DevOps environment.
  • Good understanding of lean and agile principles, like Kanban, and Scrum.
  • Experience with continuous delivery focusing on fast release cycles while maintaining quality and measuring technical health:  quality, customer-facing performance (WebCoreVitals), security standards, and actively managing technical debt.
