About IREX

IREX is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to building a more just, prosperous, and inclusive world by empowering youth, cultivating leaders, strengthening institutions, and extending access to quality education and information.

Position Summary

The Global Solutions program a virtual exchange initiative that supports workforce development in the U.S., Iraq, and Jordan. Community college and university students from the U.S. and technical college and university students from Iraq and Jordan come together to solve global challenges in their communities. The program improves global citizenship, strengthens problem-solving skills, and develops enduring connections, while enhancing students’ job skills through online collaboration. Global Solutions is implemented by IREX and is supported by the J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative (JCSVEI). JCSVEI is a U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program administered by the Aspen Institute. Community College and university faculty apply to participate in the program on behalf of students and receive training before implementing the virtual exchange.

IREX seeks current faculty members to facilitate the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge or the Global Solutions Conversations program in Spring 2025. The anticipated duration of facilitation is from February 2025 to April 2025. Expected time commitment per week is 1-3 hours for the Challenge program and up to 1.5 hours for the Conversations program.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge Project Activities

•Binational Virtual Competition: Facilitators put together gender-balanced teams to pair up with their binational partner over an eight-week period to create a sustainable solution inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

•Global Solutions Curriculum: Using IREX-provided curriculum, teams work together to research, brainstorm, design, test, and pitch their innovative solution. The curriculum includes both synchronous and asynchronous activities that prompt regular sharing and ideation between students.

•Virtual Business Expo: Students create innovative solutions and present at the Virtual Global Business Expo to experts in the field.

Global Solutions Conversations Program Activities

Through a six-week virtual exchange series consisting of six binational calls, US-MENA students will practice cross cultural collaboration and learn about each other’s cultures as they engage in the process of design thinking and discuss global issues in their community. Individual teams will brainstorm a community project idea to support increased sustainability in their local communities. Scripts are provided to guide facilitators and students through each binational call. No additional work is required outside the binational calls.
