Job Summary

The Standard seeks a talented actuary to join the Retirement Plans Stable Asset Fund (SAF) Product Management team. In this role, you will be focused on pricing and risk management for our SAF business, as well as supporting the operations of The Standard’s Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) program.


Acceptance to a position in this job family constitutes participation in the Actuarial Student Program at The Standard. The mission of the Actuarial Student Program is to grow actuarial knowledge, business acumen and leadership skills in our Actuaries to enable the achievement of organizational goals. Actuarial students are expected to progress through the levels of the job family based on academic/exam achievements and by developing their analytical skills, independent decision making, and effective communication and leadership skills.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Quarterly SAF rate setting.
  • Produce monthly financial and risk reporting dashboards.
  • Document existing processes along with ideas for refinements and process improvements.
  • Analyze financial results of the FHLB product line and identify and communicate drivers and trends in the profitability of our products.
  • Develop and maintain tools and datasets for the analysis of new and inforce business and experience, including the identification of trends and drivers.
  • Analyze internal and external economic data and trends to analyze the business to advise how we can better implement our FHLB strategy.
  • Contributes to the development of methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Develops effective communications and recommendations to management with supporting documentation.
  • Continue to build knowledge of business context to develop expertise in one or more lines of business or product areas.


Your studies will be supported through our actuarial student development program. This position is part of our student rotation program, meaning you will have the opportunity to rotate to an actuarial role in one of our three other distinct product lines or to our corporate actuarial department.

Skills and Background You’ll Need:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field preferred.
  • Successful completion of a minimum of two exams/online courses. (required)
  • Experience with actuarial modeling software – GGY Axis preferred.
  • Experience with Python or similar tool & business analytics software preferred.

Analytical/Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in an actuarial capacity with the ability to leverage more advanced actuarial expertise to contribute to more complex calculations and analyses.
  • Able to apply relevant actuarial and economic theories and standards to deliver high quality work.
  • Able to directly manage smaller or more routine actuarial projects, as well as serving as team lead on one or more advanced actuarial projects or studies.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

 

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$78,500.00 - $115,250.00
