About the role

As a Property and Casualty Intermediate Underwriter in our Commercial Lines department, your work will have a big impact by networking and building relationships with brokers and growing a profitable book of business.  People will count on you to use your superior customer service and sales skills to make sound business decisions while analyzing and selecting risks in commercial property and/or liability insurance. This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in our Edmonton and required a minimum of 2 days a week in Edmonton office.

What you'll do here:

  • Assess, evaluate and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.

  • Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with Company guidelines and personal underwriting authority limits.

  • Quote, negotiate, sell, and authorize the acceptance of moderate to complex new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business according to the business plan established for the department.

  • Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.

  • Provide technical advice, coaching and mentorship to team members.

  • Use computer systems for policy inquiry, electronic filing, underwriting and rating transactions.

  • Foster cooperative broker relationships to identify and develop sales opportunities.

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 3+ years commercial insurance experience.

  • Strong track record of developing, mentoring and coaching teammates.

  • Able to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers and colleagues.

  • Sales-focused and demonstrated confidence when negotiating and communicating with brokers.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Self-driven and able to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

  • Solution seeker and able to make recommendations to increase work efficiency.  

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and capable of navigating through multiple systems in a fast-paced environment.

  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred.
