The Chaplain is responsible for providing emotional and spiritual support to patients, family members, and hospital staff.

 

FT, Benefits Eligible, 32 hours/week, M-F some weekend,evening, and holidays required

Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct pastoral care and counseling to patients, families, and staff; provides emotional and spiritual support in times of crisis; uses dynamics of interpersonal relationships and appropriate religious resources to help ease anxiety and to help persons integrate their hospital experience with their view of life.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.In addition, provides overnight, holiday, and weekend on-site pastoral care on a rotational basis.
  • Provides informal and formal consultation to hospital staff in the development of emotional and spiritual care plans for patients and their families. In addition, provides educational offerings on topics relevant to spiritual care throughout the hospital.
  • Maintains consultative relationships with the community; consults with clergy, congregations, and religious bodies regarding spiritual care of patients and families. Assists in providing workshops for local clergy; participates in one?s own faith group activities as appropriate.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from an accredited seminary or graduate school, or equivalent.
  • Completion of four units of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education.

Certifications:

  • Ordination, or faith group equivalent, and endorsement as a Chaplain by one of the official Ecclesiastical Endorsing Organizations of the Department of Veterans Affairs or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Board certified or board certified eligible in the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains.
  • Must obtain within three years of hire and maintain throughout employment.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to situations with complex emotional and relational dynamics.

  • Standing or walking: Occasionally (0-33%)
