University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks an experienced, innovative, servant leader as Portfolio Director, Operations (PD) within the School of Business. The PD supports the University’s mission of transforming the lives of students by seeking to expand access to quality education through new and innovative means. We seek a talented PD who is highly respected in the industry and enthusiastic about addressing workforce needs, shaping the future of learning and credentialing in the profession and expanding our portfolio in new directions. The role involves engaging and building relationships with new and existing partners at community colleges, business and industry, as well as leading and developing a team of educators.

Residency or relocation to the MD/DC/Northern Virginia metro area is strongly preferred. More specifically, this position is classified as "hybrid" and the work location is Adelphi, Maryland. You may primarily work from home; however, you will be required to report regularly to the office to engage in face-to-face collaborations or reviews with your student experience and support colleagues as well as executive leadership in Adelphi or other locations within the MD/DC/Northern Virginia metro area. You will also be expected to build relationships and partnerships with experts and organizations through face-to-face interactions at various events and opportunities.
Additional accountabilities include:
Setting and leading the intellectual and strategic vision, direction, and priorities for a portfolio of learning experiences, with emphasis on alignment to required and emergent employer/industry knowledge, skills, abilities, and dispositions
Engaging as a leader in the national landscape of post-secondary education, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative approaches to validate, credential, and cultivate critical knowledge, skills, abilities, and dispositions responsive to education standards and workplace demands
Collaborating with Integrative Learning Design, Academic Services and Quality, and Analytics in the use of assignment-, course-, faculty-, and program-level data to develop, review, and update learning experiences
Hiring staff and coaching faculty including assessing and developing performance with the expectation of retaining highly talented faculty and resolving faculty issues
Tracking and monitoring portfolio performance through real-time and retrospective metrics and assessments to ensure continuous improvement in quality, effectiveness, and efficacy
Implementing data-driven activities and initiatives to ensure a high-quality portfolio of learning experiences, including metrics of student satisfaction, engagement, learning, and the student experience as drivers of student success, persistence, retention, and completion
Demonstrating and modeling highly effective teaching practices for portfolio faculty
Building and facilitating a global community of practice of expert practitioners and faculty, and ensuring their active engagement in supporting the currency, relevancy, and quality of learning experiences
Collaborating with the department and other University offices on school and University initiatives
Providing specific input to university leaders and colleagues with respect to ensuring alignment with university, state, and federal policies and priorities
Working with faculty to ensure the portfolio meets the needs of students, coaching and supporting instructors in addressing student issues, and leveraging their industry insights for the benefit of learners
Identifying new technologies, theories, and approaches within the relevant field to enhance the quality of the portfolio
Collaborating with departments and offices across the University to deliver a best-in-class learner experience, including surrounding the student in support from both academic and nonacademic vantage points, enhancing student engagement, and resolving student issues and grievances, leading to higher levels of student success
Overseeing student programs such as academic support, open houses, small centers, mentoring programs, and student clubs
Developing and maintaining productive relationships with industry partners, including businesses, hospitals, relevant organizations, professional associations, and other universities
Facilitating seminars and teaching courses during the academic year, overseeing relevant student groups/programs, and serving on UMGC committees as needed
Performing other job-related duties as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean
Required education & experience:
Earned Ph.D. or terminal degree in Business, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering/Management, or a relevant field from an accredited institution of higher learning
Three (3) years of academic experience and five (5) years of professional or managerial experience in operations management, supply chain, logistics and/or procurement
Highly motivated with knowledge of curriculum development
Familiar with various modalities of education, including Competency-Based Education
A demonstrated ability to get things done
Able to build and maintain productive working relationships
Have excellent presentation, oral, and written communication skills
Preferred education & experience:
Skilled at anticipating, averting, and solving problems
Executive presence with excellent interpersonal skills
Experience with nontraditional/adult learners
A particular ease and finesse that results from professional maturity and emotional intelligence
