Compliance Specialist - 1099-K

North - Remote

The 1099-K Compliance Specialist role will focus on executing compliance requirements within the North 1099-K Program, supporting compliance requirements of IRS 6050W for 1099-K information reporting and taxpayer compliance.

What you’ll do:

  • Review and analyze tax documents to execute account updates and data capture to ensure taxpayer compliance with IRS 6050W requirements.
  • Review, investigate and respond to compliance related inquiries in area of specialty.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in area of specialty to assist and educate internal and external customers and entities.
  • Execute subject matter compliance requirements maintaining standards that demonstrate compliance, including documentation, assurance of completion of process steps, including decision -making, and ongoing matrix for tracking compliance.
  • Support assessment of execution against requirements, including documentary evidence and reporting.
  • Identification of outliers that warrant potential modification or exception to process, exercising sound judgment and subject matter knowledge and/or expertise; consultation with manager or team leader, defining approach and documentation requirements.
  • Through day-to-day execution in areas of compliance specialty, identify potential gaps, and potential non-compliance by internal personnel and functions, in addition to identifying indicators of third party non-compliance, including merchant and agent non-compliance.
  • Support development of new policy, program and process requirements, including documentation, training and execution.
  • Review, investigate and respond to compliance related inquiries in area of specialty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


 

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of specialized compliance experience with federal and state tax preparation, specifically 1099-K and back-up withholding.
  • Minimum two (2) years of financial services/technology experience.
  • Experience with forms W-9, SS-4, LTR147C and 1099-K.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills (Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Ability to execute processes – repeatability, reliability, and reportability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to think and communicate creatively, thoughtfully, and on your feet with diverse technical and non-technical groups, spanning all organizational levels.
  • Ability to explain processes and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal written and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Display professional judgment and teamwork.
  • Detail oriented and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, including multi-level staff and external partners.
  • Ability to track multiple initiatives and meet deadlines; able to prioritize effectively.

How to stand out:

  • Certified Payments Reporting Specialist (CPRS).
  • Current or previous experience as an IRS Enrolled Agent.
  • Certified Payments Professional (ETA-CPP).
  • Background in direct customer interactions and quality assurance.
  • At least one year monitoring and detecting compliance issues in process and/or requirements and remediation.

Salary Range: $40,000-$65,000
