Overview
The HR Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring Deel internal people policies and regulated processes are compliant with applicable employment/labor laws, regulations, and industry standards. The role partners within the People team and across other departments such as Global Compliance, Legal, Finance, and others; auditors, and external counsel, to develop, implement, and maintain effective HR compliance programs, including internal HR processes & standard operating procedures. The role maintains and enhances efforts to identify risk, ensure adherence with all applicable requirements, as well as mitigate loss and protect the company.
What You'll Do
Maintain current knowledge in employment law, regulation, and best practices within the HR space globally and leverage that knowledge to build and maintain compliant people policy, program and practices at Deel.
Communicate relevant updates to stakeholders regarding how changes to legal and regulatory requirements will impact internal company practices.
Design, draft, implement, and manage all global and local employment policies and procedures, to include documentation and acknowledgment of all such policies and maintenance of all employee handbooks and internal knowledge systems.
Drive HR process & policy owners and stakeholders to ensure that HR policies and processes follow applicable current employment/labor laws, including updating and/or developing new policies, sharing information and training People team members as needed, collaborating with other involved departments and updating documents such as employee handbooks.
Engage in strategic long-term planning by developing goals for internal HR compliance working in collaboration with Policy, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Operations and other key teams owning compliance initiatives and reporting for Deel overall to include our managed customer services.
Develop schedule of audits for selected HR practices and processes to ensure compliance and identify and address potential compliance risks. Conduct scheduled audits and works with HR and stakeholder business teams to implement the recommendations, remediation and action plans resulting from audits.
Manage programs such as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) working with key stakeholders to input or deliver upon the internal HR perspective.
Develop objectives and key results (OKRs) to drive overall compliance, process improvement initiatives and business value through information and consulting.
Oversee compliance and escalation of employment screening, such as background checks. Monitor on-going background screening and collaborate with audits and other required reporting internally and externally.
Ensure anti-harassment workplace compliance through education, training and guidance for managers and working with People Success to ensure timely rollout of all required training for managers, employees, and contractors by worker type and country globally.
Attend all internal audit committee meetings and represent the internal People team in all audits such as ISO, SOC, etc.
What You'll Need
What You Bring
Preferred experience in Compliance within a financial technology, human resources technology, or other similar technology industry.
Must have a working knowledge of key country employment / labor laws and statutes, including but not limited to countries such as the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, or other large countries across the globe.
Specific experience designing, drafting, and implementing HR policies and compliance programs in multiple countries. United States experience is mandatory.
Ability to work independently and to drive teams required, including partnering with internal People team members, business leaders, and in-house counsel to drive compliance and HR-related projects forward and to ensure seamless response to new compliance obligations and projects.
Ability to challenge managers and senior executives particularly as needed during investigations required.
Ability to manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously, with a strong ability to prioritize, organize and work effectively with minimal supervision required.
Ability to manage outside counsel and vendors in both a time- and cost-efficient manner required.
2 years of HR experience in a large, highly matrixed, global corporate environment preferred.
Proficiency in Google Suite (e.g., Word, Sheets, Slides) preferred.
Direct experience in ISO and SOC audits.
Experience with drafting and reviewing employee handbooks and policies.
Ability to parse workforce data, produce reports, analyze data, and establish objectives as needed.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and strong analytical skills.
Ability to manage and influence various stakeholders at all levels of the organization, ensuring the successful adoption of HR programs.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work effectively in a rapidly evolving environment.
Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal, as well as the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams across geographies and time zones.
Self-directed with a high level of initiative; ability to set priorities, meet challenging deadlines and achieve quick resolution of issues.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities is essential.
Demonstrated ability to partner within and outside of HR successfully.
Unquestioned integrity with assertiveness, presence, and confidence.
High EQ, personal maturity, cultural awareness and compassion.
Ability to travel internationally for offsites and events.
Strong desire and preference to work in a fully remote, global environment and not in an office.
