JOB DESCRIPTION

Stats Perform is the market leader in sports tech. We provide the richest and most trusted sports data available and are at the forefront of the latest advancements in AI and machine learning.

We entwine our extensive back-catalogue of data in with innovative products and machine-learning to deliver insights, predictions, and super-fast data for a variety of sporting organisations worldwide, plus the biggest names in media and broadcast.

We partner with top-flight teams, leagues, coaches, betting companies, broadcasters, media outlets, gaming specialists and professional bodies to improve the overall experience for sports fans. We constantly collect the most detailed sports data to enhance a wide range of sports competitions, from tennis to soccer to basketball and more. Stats Perform is the knowledge bank behind it all.

But data and technology is only half of the package. We need great people to fuel the engine. And that’s where you come in…

Stats Perform is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Basketball Editor to join our growing Opta Analyst content team with a particular focus on the college game.

Stats Perform launched Opta Analyst in 2021 to reach fans directly with the best sports data journalism available. It was made possible in part due to the Opta Analyst team’s unprecedented access to the numbers that make up the undercurrent of sports. Our team of journalists, data visualization experts, data analysts, AI scientists and designers have grown the site into a destination that’s become a global resource for fans and media.

Here's what we’re looking for in our next team member:

Responsibilities

  • Produce consistent written, data-led content on the website while simultaneously acting as an editing resource for other members of the staff.
  • Assist with the regular output of content via the Opta Analyst social media accounts on various platforms.
  • Source and manage freelancers for both college and professional basketball, and work with them to assist with story ideation and data analysis.
  • Contribute toward our audio and video content across the website and social media platforms.
  • Appear on internal and external multimedia productions (podcasts, videos, interviews), being comfortable on camera and in live situations, articulating points and creating engaging conversations with internal and external staff.
  • In addition to content creation, be prepared to have a strategic voice in the editorial decision-making process for Opta Analyst.

Required Qualifications

  • NCAA basketball expertise in both the men’s and women’s games, and a willingness to write, edit and assign stories that go well beyond the Top 25.
  • Strong NBA and WNBA knowledge with willingness and comfort to contribute to our other U.S. sports work during the basketball offseason.
  • Ability to produce data-focused editorial content to a high standard with the right balance of objectivity and personality that doesn’t venture into opinion.
  • Understanding of how raw data can be turned into compelling insight and sharable content.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English with knowledge of AP style.
  • Willingness to work around the sporting schedule, which features weekend and night work, and flexible hours around major events.
  • The ability to work as part of a small team across time zones and multitask when needed.
  • Creative thinking skills and a proactive work mind-set.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with various social media platforms (X, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Threads).
  • Previous experience creating audio and video content.
  • Existing knowledge of data query tools.
  • Previous experience with SEO and analytics tools.
  • Previous experience with Wordpress.
