This position is an integral part of the leadership team within the corporate side of Itron with primary responsibility for interpreting and opining on revenue treatment under
ASC 606 Revenue from Contracts with Customers, for complex customer contracts.
The Sr Revenue Controller will establish and maintain proactive working relationships with cross-functional organizations, liaising with sales, legal, sales operations, and FP&A on an ongoing basis. In this role, you will own the review of contracts to identify problematic language in customer contracts to avoid surprises for bookings, revenue, and forecasting. The Sr Revenue Controller will participate in quarterly reviews and the annual audit performed by our external auditors as well as internal audit and SOX team activities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare authoritative memorandums and other schedules required to substantiate the company’s position for revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP.
- Establish, modify and maintain appropriate company revenue recognition policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure revenue is properly recorded and reported in accordance with US GAAP.
- Identify and articulate complex revenue accounting issues clearly and concisely to sales, legal, sales operations, and FP&A .
- Work closely with the revenue operations team to provide guidance on proper timing and amount of revenue for complex customer contracts.
- Assist in the adoption and implementation of new ASU’s for ASC 606 Revenue from Contracts with Customers.
- Lead the annual standalone selling price analysis for products and services.
- Prepare and submit PBC’s to Itron’s external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audit.
- Assist with documentation and testing of SOX controls.
- Monitor all technical accounting developments and interpret technical requirements (SEC reporting requirements and ASU’s) as they pertain to revenue recognition and create plans for adoption.
- Identify and implement process improvements using AI and other relevant current technology.
- Perform special projects as requested by Director Revenue Controller.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm or with a public technology company in a role leading the review and interpretation of complex contracts.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Team player, proven leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently to identify problems early, explore possible solutions and drive for consensus building.
- Proficiency with ASC 606 Revenue from Contracts with Customers.
- Willingness to take on additional projects and responsibilities as needed.
- Familiar with the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) that became effective July 1, 2009.
- Experience with Oracle and Oracle Projects Module a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PPT.
- Experience with Alteryx and/or Pramata a plus.
Certifications: CPA required

Additional Location(s): This position is also open to those that reside in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or North Carolina that can work remotely and travel to Liberty Lake, WA or Raleigh, NC at least once per quarter.
Liberty Lake, WA: The base salary is $125,000 - $225,000. This position is eligible for our annual bonus program.
