Job Title: IT Manager

Organization: Northern Illinois Food Bank

Reports to: Senior Director

Northern Illinois Food is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity in our community by distributing nutritious food to those in need. As a small but impactful organization, we are seeking an IT Manager to oversee and improve our technology infrastructure, ensuring that we can operate efficiently and effectively in our mission to end hunger.

 

Job Summary:

The IT Manager will oversee all technology and IT-related operations within the food bank, ensuring the smooth functioning of systems, databases, networks, and software that support our food distribution, volunteer management, and data analytics activities. This role will involve maintaining current systems, troubleshooting issues, and identifying and implementing improvements that align with the organization’s goals and resources.

 

Essential Functions: 

 

Systems & Network Administration:

• Manage and oversee the maintenance of all computer systems, networks, servers, and applications used by staff and volunteers.

• Oversee hardware and software installations, upgrades, and maintenance to ensure reliability.

• Ensure network security, perform regular backups, and safeguard sensitive data.

Database Management & Integration:

• Oversee the management and integrity of our data, including food distribution tracking, donor information, and volunteer databases.

• Manage integrations between software solutions, such as our donor management system, CRM, and food inventory systems.

• Support the development and maintenance of analytics platforms to provide insights for decision-making.

IT Support & Troubleshooting:

• Provide technical support and training to staff and volunteers to ensure they are able to use IT systems effectively.

• Respond to and resolve IT-related issues in a timely manner.

Cybersecurity & Compliance:

• Develop and enforce IT policies and protocols to ensure the organization complies with security regulations and data privacy laws.

• Implement and monitor cybersecurity measures to protect the organization’s digital assets.

Technology Strategy:

• Work with leadership to identify opportunities for improving technology and systems to increase efficiency and further our mission.

• Evaluate new tools, platforms, and solutions to support our growing needs.

• Ensure the IT budget aligns with organizational priorities and manage vendors and contracts.

 

Required Education, Skills, and Experience 

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

• 3+ years of experience in IT management or a related role, preferably in a nonprofit setting.

• Strong understanding of network administration, database management, and systems integration.

• Experience with CRM systems, donor management software, and cloud-based tools (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Google Workspace).

• Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

• Passion for the nonprofit sector and commitment to the mission of addressing food insecurity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience with GIS systems or food bank inventory management software.

• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data privacy laws relevant to nonprofit organizations.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises one employee.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
 
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

 

Remote Work

Based on the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Remote Work Policy and position evaluation, this position is eligible for hybrid remote work.

 

Position Location and Travel

This position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location. Travel to other Food Bank branches is required.
