Job description

SCS Engineers is looking for a Senior Geophysicist to work with SCS’ Carbon Sequestration and Deep Well Injection practice. This dynamic team of geoscience and engineering professionals has a healthy backlog of fast-paced work. You would be contributing immediately to the success of our team’s exciting work in assessing and developing carbon sequestration complexes (Class VI injection wells). Additional opportunities will include assessment of wastewater disposal projects (Class I injection wells) and mining projects. The Senior Geophysicist will have a strong focus on the analysis and interpretation of subsurface reservoirs for carbon dioxide storage and the monitoring and verification of carbon dioxide storage using geophysical methods (seismic, DAS, DTS, electromagnetic and gravity). Tasks will include quality checking and processing seismic data (2D and 3D), coordinating and interfacing with the team’s data collection, geologic, engineering, and modeling teams to develop interpretations, discussing interpretations and findings with clients, recording interpretations and findings in written reports, managing projects and participating in business development . This position offers flexible working arrangements rather it being hybrid in a SCS office or being remote. The role requires knowledge of carbon capture and storage (CCS), and technical expertise of applying geophysical methods for characterizing carbonate and siliciclastic reservoirs.

  • Interpret geologic and seismic data using petrophysics and geophysics principles, perform technical calculations, seismic time and depth reports.
  • Ensure quality control standards are met for processing, modeling and reporting activities.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of seismic data interpretations.
  • Produce technical reports that meet agreed client and company standards.
  • Deliver presentations to the client as needed to ensure information is clearly conveyed in a meaningful manner.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Skilled at data analysis, problem-solving, critical thinking and multi-tasking.
  • Work autonomously and remotely but willing to travel.
  • Ensure that all projects are designed and delivered with the purpose of meeting our client's goals.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Oversee and develop junior staff to advance their knowledge and career path.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation and develop a detailed project plan to track progress.
  • Adapt to changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Work cooperatively to develop drawings, reports, and permit applications.
  • Make decisions independently on engineering or scientific problems and methods.
  • Office-based tasks include conducting seismic interpretation using various platforms or software, report writing, creating figures and permit application content.
  • Business development tasks include proposal preparation, meeting with clients, and attending industry-related conferences/trade shows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geosciences or engineering .
  • Minimum of 10 years of geophysical experience required. Relevant knowledge of carbon capture and sequestration is required.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
  • Familiarity with OpendTect seismic interpretation software, or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in multiple North American basins and varied depositional environments.

Pay Range

USD $90,000.00 - USD $140,000.00 /Yr.
