Systems Administrator

Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.

The Systems Administrator will support GlobalMed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). This role involves maintaining server infrastructure, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with DoD security standards. Candidates must have at least three years of experience with DoD information processing and possess an IAT Level II certification.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Systems Administrator: $85,000 - $95,000.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Systems Administrator Responsibilities Include:

  • Information System Security Manager (ISSM), Information System Security Officer (ISSO), GlobalMed, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) Local Area Network (LAN), WRNMMC Cyber teams, and other teams throughout the DoD to leverage automated tools to include but not limited to Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), the candidate shall provide means of accessing required software updates that have been approved through DOD Information Assurance (IA).
  • Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) scripts and manual reviews to determine configuration requirements & compliance status, recommend corrective actions, and implement approved solutions.
  • Evaluate operational and security configurations on all applicable server software to include operating system (Windows Servers), Unix conversion/transfer with working Unix knowledge to support post-transition, web servers (IIS 8.5/10), databases (SQL Server 2016), anti-virus (McAfee ENS 10.6), GlobalMed applications, and other systems/servers required for upgrades.
  • Testing and approval of configuration changes. The same actions will be completed for workstation operating system (Windows 10) and installed applications.
  • Analyze network traffic, server performance monitoring, and storage requirements to recommend and implement solutions to optimize overall system performance.
  • Conduct configuration management processes by completing testing to identify how the requested changes impact the operation or security of the GlobalMed system. Test plans will be developed and provided to applicable stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues impacting the reliable operation of the system. Troubleshooting will include but not limited to; servers, workstations, client/server communications, applications, or other technical issues. Troubleshooting will include testing of impacted services or resources, verification of system baselines, and evaluation of system event logs.
  • Management of technical requirements in accordance with the System Life Cycle Management (SLCM) strategy. SLCM tasks include continuous, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual assessments to be completed. These include, but not limited to, analysis of audit logs, validation of software baseline/whitelist, installation of operational/security patches, testing of propose configuration changes, verification of network backup/restoration capabilities, remediation of technical POA&Ms, technical support of Annual Review self-assessment, Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) testing (Incident Response Plan, Contingency Plan, and security controls), STIG/ACAS compliance verification, and other technical requirements.
  • Perform daily system administration of server infrastructure for GlobalMed.
  • Maintain GlobalMed servers including implementing all required operating system and application updates and security policies and configurations.
  • Respond to periodic security scan results by correcting any findings or creating Plan of Action Memoranda (POAM) to remediate.
  • Support development efforts with testing and installation of software upgrades/changes.
  • Prepare system documentation to support RMF package and knowledge transfer.
  • Track and report GlobalMed system utilization.
  • Perform tasks as the ones above for other VH applications.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Systems Administrator Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Shall have at least three (3) years of experience with DoD information processing standards, policies, and authorized system design approaches to manage large-scale projects.
  • Shall possess extensive knowledge of information technology, systems design and development concepts, and related policies and procedures to provide advice and consultation.
  • Shall recommend hardware/software replacements and upgrades to meet current and future requirements.
  • Shall possess proficiency in the systems analysis and design specialty to serve as a technical authority on a wide range of technology applications. Must also have knowledge of emerging technology to apply new solutions to system requirements and to plan advanced system projects.
  • Effective writing and speaking skills must be sufficient to be persuasive in advocating technical solutions for improvements to new systems or implementation of new technologies.
  • This is an IAT Level II position as defined in DOD 8570-01-M. One or more of the following certifications are required: CompTIA Security +, GSEC, SSCP, or CCNA-Security.
  • Must have an Active Public Trust clearance.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
