Core Duties

Role And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of payroll including monthly payroll, compensation components, statutory compliance, incentive calculations, and data integrity for over 6,000 employees working remotely throughout India (concentrated in Andra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana).
  • Lead a small remote team across multiple geographies but headquartered in Visakhapatnam.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit integrity in payroll planning and execution.
  • Develop and maintain payroll Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and TATs, revising them as needed to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Generate various reports and Management Information System (MIS) outputs for financial and regulatory compliance.
  • Create policies and procedures that meet the rigorous standards of external audits and Internal Financial Controls (IFC).
  • Manage audits and risk assessments as required and ensure Internal Audit corrections are put in place with attention to sustainable best practices.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders, legal, finance and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) to solve challenges that cross between departments.
  • Provide insights and analysis to stakeholders, including leadership in India and North America.
  • Periodically assess existing practices, recommending enhancements for improvement.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, offering timely advice, direction, and recommendations on compensation structures, benefits, and policy interpretations to senior management.
  • Support the employee insurance lifecycle, participate in the renewal of all group insurance policies.
  • Establish and adhere to optimal data management processes.
  • Drive the transformation and modernization of the payroll function through the integration of technology for process automation and enhanced reporting.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong current understanding of payroll best practices and relevant state and local laws.
  • Proven willingness and ability to learn payroll systems and best practices in various international contexts.
  • Significant experience with HRMS and extensive backend payroll operations.
  • Able to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, with a capacity for quickly learning new or updated tools.
  • Player-coach leader with the ability to produce individual results while coaching and developing team members.
  • Experience managing captive payroll operations is a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate independently under minimal guidance.
  • Flexibility to accommodate varying schedules to engage with US team members.

Education And Experience

  • MBA/PGDM or equivalent postgraduate degree in HR.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in HR Operations (including payroll), with at least 8 years focused on core payroll functions.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience leading results delivery for a functional or sub-functional group, with a specific focus on independent decision-making responsibilities
  • Experience in a matrixed multinational environment is an advantage.
