Overview

The Last Mile, a San Francisco, CA-based non-profit is the first prison program in the U.S. to provide in-prison software engineering training. Our mission is to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth for justice-involved individuals through education and technology training.  By joining The Last Mile, you will be part of a mission-driven team focused on transforming lives and creating opportunities for justice-impacted individuals.  

The People Operations Generalist plays a critical role in providing excellent support to all employees of the organization through carrying out the HR department’s day-to-day functions. The People Ops Generalist is a key component to building and maintaining The Last Mile’s company culture through demonstrating and upholding our core values. 

This position reports to the People Operations Manager and is a remote-based role. The salary range is based on the employee's geographic location. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and courteous support to all employees, being their first point of
    contact for general inquiries
  • Manage new employee onboarding activities for new team members including processing  new hire paperwork, delivering new employee orientation, and supporting hiring managers  
  • Manage offboarding activities in compliance with company policies and laws
  • Assist in the development and management of employee recognition programs
  • Support training and development initiatives using the Learning Management System (LMS) to assign, track and record learning activities.
  • Assist in the development and management of our employee recognition programs
  • Maintain employee data in the HR systems, ensuring employee data accuracy
  • Recommend and create workflows/checklists to ensure consistency and compliance with processes
  • Be a champion and role model of TLM’s organizational values 


Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of HR experience, working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • General knowledge of HR compliance and employment laws  
  • Experience managing one or more HR systems - BambooHR preferred. 
  • Have the ability to handle confidential material with the utmost discretion.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and project management experience are a must.
  • The skillful execution of administrative activities, with a high attention to detail, organization, and process.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a confident ability to offer suggestions and improvements to process and work collaboratively with others.
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to build a personal network throughout the company.
  • Strong oral and written communication. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels within the organizations and external partners.
  • Experience setting up and managing virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Webex, GoToWebinar, Google Meet.
  • Working proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet).
