Job description

ORIX Corp. is a publicly-listed global financial conglomerate (NYSE: IX) with ~$120bn balance sheet. It is also a strategic, long-term owner of specialty finance and asset-based businesses. The Asset-Based Finance (“ABF”) team is a relatively new, and growing vertical within the private credit platform at ORIX USA, with 7 investment professionals currently. Opportunity is to join this collaborative and growing team, and be part of the core team to help build the business.

ABF group makes bespoke private loans backed by hard assets (for e.g. railcars, containers, trucks and chassis, small ticket equipment), financial assets (such as small business loans, trade finance, lender finance, etc.), intellectual property & esoteric assets (like drug royalties, tax credits, insurance commissions, structured settlements), as well as non-core real estate and infrastructure (e.g. cold storage, marinas, data centers and fiber assets, mobile home parks). See ORIX website for further details. ORIX USA has ~1,300 employees, and manages $85bn in balance sheet and 3rd party investor capital, across private credit, private equity and real estate. ABF team is currently deploying the firm’s sizeable balance sheet, and will raise 3rd party capital over time. While our primary mandate is to provide credit to these businesses, we opportunistically look to do structured equity investments or control buyouts.

The candidate will be involved in all aspects of the business, including sourcing, underwriting, execution and monitoring of private credit investments. It’s a unique opportunity to join the group in early stages of its evolution. We are in office, in NYC, three to four days per week (this is not a remote working role). Comp will be commensurate with industry/ platforms of similar size. Direct interaction with senior investment professionals and exposure to wide variety of underlying asset classes will provide candidates the opportunity to rapidly hone their investing skill set. The team also has a supportive culture, and strong performers would have the freedom to take on significant responsibility. Small group size and 2-3 person deal teams provide strong potential growth trajectory at the firm.

Qualifications:

  • 6-12+ years of relevant work experience, including IBD training at a reputed institution
  • Strong undergraduate GPA and standardized test scores
  • Demonstrated ability to perform fundamental corporate valuation, and deep familiarity with financial statements, cash flow modeling, DCF, LBO, etc.
  • Candidates may come from an investment-banking role, private equity or credit/ special situations firm
  • The role requires a smart, ambitious and energetic person with an outstanding financial analysis skill set, detail-oriented approach to work, the ability to understand businesses, and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

Annual base salary gross: $185,000 - $225,000 (NY only). The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end of the ORIX USA’s salary for this position. Actual base salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base pay is one component of ORIX USA’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards and benefits include cash bonuses, long term incentives, health insurance, accident and life insurance, and retirement benefits.  Please visit our Benefits page for additional information.
