Job description

At Sourcebooks, we are committed to producing high-quality content across a variety of genres. We are looking for an experienced Freelance Resource Manager to join our team. This key role will focus on the sourcing, training, and management of a talented pool of freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers, ensuring that our production and editorial teams have access to the best vendors for every project.

As the Freelance Resource Manager, you will help streamline our freelance processes, optimize our vendor database, and maintain the highest standards of performance and efficiency for all freelance editorial work. 


This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NC, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI. 

The salary range for this role is between $50,000 - $65,000, with the final offer dependent on experience and qualifications.

 What You’ll Be Doing: 
  • Freelancer Sourcing & Recruitment: Recruit qualified freelance editors, proofreaders, and indexers, building a diverse talent pool to meet various project needs. 
  • Training & Development: Develop training materials and onboarding processes, provide feedback, and foster positive, professional relationships with freelancers. 
  • Freelancer Database & Process Optimization: Manage and improve the freelancer database, track performance, availability, and maintain Best Practices documentation. 
  • Vendor Coordination & Feedback Management: Act as the primary liaison between freelancers and internal teams, collecting feedback and resolving issues to ensure high-quality results. 
What You Bring:
  • A degree in fields like Publishing, English, Communications, or Business Administration  However, relevant experience in project management, resource allocation, or publishing production can sometimes substitute for a specific degree.
  • 2-4 years proven experience in freelance resource management, publishing, or project management. 
  • Strong knowledge of editorial processes and requirements for copyediting, proofreading, and indexing. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills, with attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Basecamp). 
Preferred Skills: 
  • Familiarity with industry-standard style guides, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Experience with freelancer recruiting platforms and providing performance feedback.
