Job Description

Are you passionate about innovation and making a difference? Do you want to make an impact on the safety of products people use every day?

We are looking for PhD level scientist to help us ensure the safety of oral care products used by millions of people around the world. This position is for a product safety toxicologist within our Global Product Stewardship (GPS) organization.

In Oral Care we are focused on delivering healthy, beautiful smiles for life by empowering consumers to improve their health and wellness through accessible, enjoyable, sustainable, and effective oral care habits. To achieve this, we offer holistic oral care solutions across a variety of regulatory categories (articles, cosmetics, medical devices, and over-the-counter drugs).

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and safety-compliance of oral care products and their ingredients, globally. You will partner with your peers and multifunctional R&D (Research & Development) teams to deliver key technical and business initiatives. General responsibilities include:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct literature research and data analysis to investigate the toxicity and potential health effects of substances or product components in isolation or combination.

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential risks (including physical and mechanical risks) by determining safe exposure levels, identifying potential routes of exposure, and assessing the likelihood and severity of adverse effects.

  • Designing Toxicity Testing: Design experiments or oversee studies to evaluate the toxicity of substances or products.

  • Data Interpretation and Reporting: Analyze and interpret study findings and toxicological data (in vitro, in vivo, in silico, and/or clinical) and summarize the results in internal scientific reports.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Partner with Regulatory Affairs to stay up to date on relevant regulations and guidelines related to the toxicological evaluation of your product portfolio. As the need arises, you may be tasked with contributing to the development of safety standards and guidelines and providing expert advice to regulatory agencies and industry associations.

  • Multifunctional Collaboration: Work within a matrix team environment involving technical specialists in engineering, manufacturing, statistics, quality assurance, dentistry, regulations, and project management to drive business results.

  • Risk Communication: Effectively communicate the potential risks and impacts of your findings to stakeholders to enable informed decision making.

This position is in the Mason Business and Innovation Center (Mason, OH) and is a hybrid role with the opportunity to work from home for part of the week.

  • Leadership experience in leveraging scientific expertise for complex environmental risk assessment of chemicals in an industrial, government, and/or academic setting.
