Role overview
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Tax Manager to join our US, East Coast team. You’ll have the flexibility to work remotely or, if preferred, from our New York City office.
Reporting to our Group Head of Tax, you will ensure accurate and compliant US payroll tax filings and deposits, manage tax accounts, and oversee ADP processes.
Your role also includes auditing, regulatory updates, cross-functional collaboration, and providing expert guidance on payroll taxation.
As a Payroll Tax Manager at Next15, you will:
- Oversee and track all US payroll tax filings prepared and submitted by ADP.
- Ensure all payroll taxes are being deposited to the tax authority by the statutory due date to prevent assessment of penalties and interest.
- Ensure the appropriate federal, state, and local tax accounts are set up for new hires.
- Obtain new tax accounts as required, close down dormant tax accounts, and ensure final filings are submitted by ADP.
- Assist with the set-up of new earnings and deduction codes within ADP, work with local payroll teams to eliminate redundant codes to build a master list across Legal entities
- Maintain online portal access to all payroll tax accounts for all legal entities
- Review, track, and respond to payroll tax notices, ensuring satisfactory outcomes
- Perform regular audits and reviews of payroll tax calculations, ensuring accuracy and completeness in tax withholdings, including income taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and other applicable taxes
- Assist the finance team in payroll tax-related queries and provide proposed Journal Entries related to tax assessments.
- Monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and rates and implement necessary adjustments to payroll tax procedures and systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely communication and reporting of tax-related information
- Manage relationships with external tax agencies, auditors, and consultants, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries, requests, and audits
- Provide training and guidance to HR, Payroll Operations, and other relevant teams on payroll tax-related matters, ensuring compliance with tax regulations
- Stay updated on industry best practices, trends, and technological advancements in payroll tax management, recommending and implementing process improvements where applicable
- Review the taxation of deferred compensation and stock compensation
- Research and document the taxation of new earnings and benefits
You will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 4 or more years of professional Payroll Tax experience
- Experience with payroll tax in a multi-state and multi-jurisdiction environment
- Experience working with ADP Workforce Now and SmartCompliance
- Advanced in Microsoft Office Excel
