Description

    Purpose and Scope of Position

This position works closely with insurance agents and brokers as well as internal customer service in the binding of insurance, servicing of policies, and review/follow-up of underwriting information.

     Organizational Relationship

This position reports directly to Team Lead - UW Operations & Renewal. This position does not supervise others.

     Duties and Responsibilities

  • Has responsibility for renewal pre-qualification to determine if non-renewal, conditional non-renewal or other notice needs to be issued.
  • Solicit renewal information from agents/brokers 90-120 days out from expiration. 
  • Present concerning renewals for referral at least 30-45 days before inception.
  • Handle all aspects of renewal business, including terms, pricing, retention, growth and profitability per WDIS guidelines.
  • Analyze any changes in exposure to determine acceptability, increased hazards and alert team of trends or issues.
  • Maintain underwriting discipline by maintaining bottom-line underwriting philosophy.  Using independent judgement and initiative to support business goals.   
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control for policy issuance, inspection compliance, policy details and related items.
  • Process endorsements and correspond with agents/brokers.
  • Remain within designated authority and seek approval as needed.
  • Document files appropriately with complete underwriting thought process.
  • Assess risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiate appropriate loss prevention actions.
  • Develop and maintains effective business relationships with clients to retain profitable business.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple departments to ensure best possible outcomes for all inquiries while minimizing touches.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction in a remote environment.
  • Collaborates with WDIS team and assists with departmental specific reports or projects as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced start up team environment with a desire to learn and understand our insurance product offerings and value proposition.
  • Safeguard WDIS, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting issues with transparency.
Qualifications

Job Requirements

 

  1. Basic Qualifications (i.e. education, certifications, etc…)
    • 3-5 years of Property Underwriting Experience.
    • College degree or equivalent Property/Casualty preferred.  Insurance industry designations are a plus.
    • Experience with working with Retail Agents and Wholesale Brokers.
    • Knowledge of market and regulatory environment.
    • Ideal candidate holds P&C Agent/Broker License and is able to obtain other licenses after hire date.

    • Strong communication, negotiation, customer service, relationship and organizational skills are required.
    • Excellent attention to detail, flexible to change, able to meet deadlines.
    • Excellent technical and marketing skills required.
    • Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks.
    • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Policy Management/Underwriting Systems.
