Advocate Health’s Legal Department is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment (L&E) attorney to provide legal advice and representation to our non-profit healthcare system. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines, comfort interacting directly with our business partners and outside counsel, and strong command of employment laws. The ideal candidate must also have a minimum of 3 years of L&E practice, with experience advising multi-state employers and defending employment litigation. The position is remote.
Major Responsibilities:
Provides legal support to, and otherwise support, Advocate Health entities Works collaboratively with attorneys, business partners, other teammates, outside counsel, and outside vendors, performing a wide variety of duties Communicates effectively with Legal Department teammates, business partners, courts and government agencies Manages and delegates projects to outside counsel, with an ability to identify and articulate to outside counsel what needs to be done on particular matters such as EEOC charges, lawsuits, government agency investigations, and general employment matters and questions Manages legal matters, including single plaintiff litigation, litigation holds, investigations, due diligence, discovery, and other responsibilities and assignments as required in the Legal Department Conducts legal research Conducts and oversees investigations Conducts witness interviews and prepares witnesses for mediations, government agency interviews and conferences. Attends and/or provides support in mediations and depositions Negotiates, drafts and/or reviews various types of legal documents such as contracts, employment agreements, settlement agreements, severance agreements, discovery responses, pleadings, position statements, response to requests for information, response to agency complaints, correspondence, memoranda, policies and other legal documents Participates in knowledge sharing, training, mentoring, and development for self and other members of the Legal Department. Serves as resource to and assists with the training and mentoring of externs and paralegals in the Legal Department Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Attorney licensed to practice law issued by the state in which the teammate practices.
Education Required:
Doctorate Degree in Law.
Experience Required:
Typically requires 3+ years of experience in providing labor and employment legal services within a major law firm or as in-house legal counsel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Ability to analyze corporate contracts, legal agreements, and risk management. Ability to effectively leverage the use of outside counsel while controlling costs. Ability to work effectively with governmental and other regulatory agencies to protect the best interests of the business. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and other stakeholders, which is necessary to collaborate with staff/management/executives/other organizations. Ability to be self-motivated and driven while working remotely in a high volume, busy Legal Department.
