Summary of Job Duties:
The incumbent of this position has full supervisory responsibility for assigned sections of the core laboratory and acts as backup to other core lab supervisors as needed. Supervisors for the Core Lab are qualified as Technical Supervisors for the Hematology, Chemistry and Immunology Sections. Oversees compliance with all regulatory requirements, staffing, production workflow, quality metrics, and testing quality. The QA supervisor also oversees proficiency testing, review of quality control and quality assurance metrics.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology, or Medical Laboratory Science
  • 2 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • ASCP Certification (MLS or MT)
  • Experience with EPIC Beaker and microsoft office programs.
  • Experience with quality control / quality assurance processes and metrics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Automation Lines, IT cloud based systems, servers, and interfaces
  • Department of Transportation Shipping Certification
  • Knowledge of CAP regulations for core sections. Ability to troubleshoot interface and computer system errors.
  • Knowledge of EPIC Beaker Test Environments.
  • Knowledge of proficiency testing regulations

  • Completes required testing on the bench including maintenance, quality control, and function checks as needed.
  • Implements projects, establishes schedules, and assigns staff as needed to meet project requirements as it relates to quality initiatives, research, or validation studies.
  • Oversees compliance with regulatory requirements of accrediting agencies such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Participates in CAP inspections both as a direct contact for inspections and as an inspector for other facilities.
  • Supervises and provides general oversight to staff. Contributes to the development of job descriptions, screens and interviews potential hires, trains staff, and engages in ongoing disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Oversees daily operations in area of responsibility, ensuring adequate staff of demonstrated competency is available to meet the workload. Adjusts staff and testing priorities as required.
  • Adheres to department budget goals by overseeing the purchasing of supplies, ensuring adequate inventory is on hand to meet operational needs.
