Summary of Job Duties:
The Associate Director is a member of the Transition Programs & Initiatives Leadership Team that assists the Director in providing leadership to the department. The Associate Director will supervise and evaluate professional, graduate, and undergraduate staff members. The incumbent will oversee multiple TPI programmatic areas including Extended Orientation Programs, First-Year & Transition Initiatives, Class Outreach Programs, and assist with other departmental programs as needed.

This position develops, coordinates, and evaluates A-Week, a student transition initiative designed to support new students as they become fully connected and engaged members of the University of Arkansas community. The Associate Director will advise multiple TPI student leader groups and develop a comprehensive leadership development program for all TPI paraprofessionals. In addition, the Associate Director will produce publications for first-year students; research and identify current trends and initiatives in first-year and second-year programming for possible implementation at the University of Arkansas; develop programs and services geared towards first-generation student success; and develop student engagement initiatives beyond the first-year. The Associate Director will also assist with campus-wide student success initiatives in collaboration with partners from the division of student affairs, student success, and academic colleges. The Associate Director will provide guidance and leadership for all assessments and data reports, and use this information to develop strategic goals and missions for all current and future programs within the department.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization, specifically higher education, college student personnel services, counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least five years of relevant experience working directly with new students and parent/family members in a higher education/college student personnel services or a related field at the Coordinator, Assistant Director, or similar level

  • Experience planning and implementing large-scale university programs

  • Experience supervising undergraduate student leaders/paraprofessionals and graduate students

  • Experience in the development and implementation of programs aimed at first-year students

  • Experience working in a fast-paced office environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience developing and evaluating extended orientation and leadership programs for college students

  • At least six years of relevant experience working directly with new students and parent/family members in a higher education/college student personnel services or a related field at the Coordinator, Assistant Director, or similar level

  • Supervisory and budget management experience
