Job description

Purpose:
The position will gain experience in multiple areas within the Insurance accounting team as the role will own responsibilities residing on both the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and Statutory Accounting teams. This will allow for the opportunity to learn and experience the two different accounting sides of the Insurance division by being involved with internal and external reporting of the Insurance financials.
This position will be based out of the US Steel Tower in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will have the potential to work from home with a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week at home and 2 days per week in office.
Responsibilities:
  • GAAP Accounting Team:
    • Oversight of a line of business/product financials and general ledger (Month-end close, Account Reconciliations, Accounts Payable for external suppliers)
    • Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
    • Develop financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
    • Partner with the financial and operational teams for estimation of accruals and account reconciliations
    • Audit obligations (Financial, Internal, etc.) by completing annual audit requests
  • Statutory Accounting Team:
    • Owner of a regulated company to complete the quarterly and annual statutory filings for the external regulators
    • Completion of the separate Audited Financials for each regulated company
    • Ad-hoc Industry Analysis (competitor comparisons, state analytics, LOB rankings); Analyze complex financial data and extract and define relevant information
    • Act as a mentor for Financial Analysts or administrative staff.
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field required.
    • Minimum of three years of related work experience required.
    • OR High School Diploma/GED and five years of related work experience.
    • Microsoft Office spreadsheet application required, and PeopleSoft General Ledger proficiency preferred.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    CPA/MBA preferred.
