This is a remote position.

Bookkeeper Position

Hours: 9am to 6pm Gaithersburg, MD Time

Type: Remote

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.
  • Identify financial discrepancies in client records, evaluate small business general ledgers, and either fix or define accounting/reconciling problems and their solutions.
  • Work with clients to integrate accounting software with banks, CRMs, and other add-in applications.
  • Troubleshoot small business accounting records using software like QBO and Xero.
  • Advise small business clients on synchronizing operating and accounting routines to maximize value.
  • Create content using Microsoft tools – especially Excel pivot tables, charts, etc. – Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Improve internal operations by building templates, tools, and clear communications with the team.
  • Maintain routines while working on multiple accounts and tasks.
  • Develop standard reports for use across clients and improve internal processes for daily and weekly operations.
  • Work with clients to obtain necessary documents and information, managing varying levels of client responsiveness.


Requirements
  • Proven bookkeeping experience with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in small business accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero).
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft tools – Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with advanced Microsoft 365 tools and willingness to advance the usage of such tools.
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity in professional conduct.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new processes and systems.
  • Highly Regarded Skills and Experience:
  • Thorough understanding of materiality and the ability to apply it in every task.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, FreshBooks, MYOB, etc.
  • Ability to self-direct and take initiative.
  • Experience in managing financial records for small to medium-sized businesses.
  • No specific degree required; strong experience and deep accounting skills are strongly preferred.

Team Dynamics:

  • You will work closely with our seasoned office manager who is client-focused (AP/Payroll).
  • Interaction with the team leader for business development and quality control, and you'll have the opportunity to learn from their expertise in analysis, project management, IT integration, and process improvement.
  • Your role will significantly lighten the workload of the team leader by taking on key accounting responsibilities.
