Are you ready to take your accounting expertise to the next level? At Team Global Express, we are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our high-performing corporate finance team. This role offers the opportunity to influence change and drive continuous improvement within our accounting practices.

Scope & Overall Purpose of the Job:

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will assume ownership of key accounting requirements for Global Express. You will be responsible for designing and implementing best practice accounting policies, financial processes, and internal controls. Supporting the Financial Controller, you will collaborate closely with our Integrated Business Services and Business Unit finance teams to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting and balance sheet reconciliations. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Policy Development: Develop and implement accounting policies, ensuring compliance with AASB and accounting standards across all business units.
  • Technical Advice: Provide independent technical advice on key areas of the P&L and balance sheet, including lease accounting, hedge accounting, consolidation, revenue recognition, and business combinations.
  • Governance Framework: Draft technical accounting papers for the Audit & Risk Committee and Board. Develop and implement a governance framework for reporting and monitoring balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Prepare and review key balance sheet reconciliations, coordinating timely resolution of variances. Prepare balance sheet budgets and forecasts, analyzing and commenting on variances.
  • Risk Assessments: Conduct group-wide financial and control risk assessments and provide inputs to senior stakeholders to mitigate financial risks.
  • External Audit Liaison: Act as a key contact for external auditors, ensuring timely resolution of issues and conducting robust technical discussions.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare Group Consolidation Financial statements and lead the implementation of the Group Financial Control Framework, supporting Internal Audit action plans.
  • Process Improvement: Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practice end-to-end financial processes for key technical areas. Develop detailed documentation for new processes and ensure effective knowledge transfer to broader finance teams.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and guidance in decision-making processes.

Required Skills & Capabilities:

Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years post-qualification experience in similar roles within large organizations or from audit (Big 4 audit experience preferred).
  • Ability to identify and mitigate financial risks and drive actions across teams.
  • Strong technical financial accounting knowledge of AASB and IFRS, capable of providing solid technical advice.
  • Ability to grasp complex ideas quickly and communicate effectively.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Technical/Professional Skills Required

  • Advanced knowledge of AASB.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Oracle experience is advantageous, though not necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce with a Finance/Accounting focus.
  • Registered CA/CPA or an equivalent global qualification.
