Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Associate I will contribute in the effort to further the mission of UAMS: To improve the health and health care of Arkansans. This position will work in the Department of Family and Preventative Medicine, Research and Evaluation Division and is responsible for executing training protocols in early childhood education. The position will report to the project Director and Principal Investigator. The Research Associate develops project specific training, training materials and processes for on-line and one-on-one training across the state. Travel within state is required. 5-7 evenings per month required along with 1-2 Saturdays per month.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work or related field plus five (5) years of research experience in training adults, education, planning, or early childhood programs required.
Arkansas Driver’s License and ability to travel within AR and outside for trainings and project meetings as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience in training, early childhood work, social sciences.
Experience with community engagement and qualitative research.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities:
Work in collaboration with project director to implement a research-based training intervention designed to increase child care provider capacity to create positive, goal-oriented relationships with the families of children in their care.
Incorporate project objectives, state and national guidelines for family engagement, and recognized standards for quality in early childhood classrooms.
Assist in the creation of trainer guides and participant manuals that include interactive learning and participant materials that translate research to practice.
Deliver the training intervention, provide coaching towards goal achievement with child care center directors and staff, collect practice change data by executing the data collection methods for the project. The intervention includes group and individual instruction, one- on-one coaching, and on-going follow-up with participants including use of traditional communication and social media.
Solve problems both independently and with team, identify problems with the intervention as it progresses, analyze both individual and group participant needs, suggest and implement adjustments as needed.
Work creatively and independently within the scope of the project.
Interact with division and departmental staff as needed.
Train adult learners and be adept in the use of training strategies including digital platforms such as Zoom, email, databases, and social media to stay in touch with team and intervention participants.
Monitor participant progress.
Analyze participant strengths, needs, and other issues.
Make adjustments as needed to accomplish project goals.
Serve as a trainer/coach to child care program directors that participate in the intervention.
Utilize evaluation feedback to refine the intervention.
Work with team to disseminate intervention findings including conference presentations and publications. Perform other duties as assigned.
Ensure purchasing and travel expenses are submitted to departmental personnel according to UAMS standards.
