About this role 
Uplift Oregon is a labor-management partnership between AFSCME Council 75, SEIU 503, and the State of Oregon. Uplift's programming focuses on consistent, quality training on benefits, wellness and equity for state employees.  The Uplift Oregon Director ensures successful completion of the program’s goals through effective planning, board relations, staff leadership, and organizational collaboration. 

 

Essential Functions, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Ensures that Uplift's training and education strategy optimizes all opportunities for innovation in the delivery of effective and efficient education, training and workforce development; 
  • With Trustees and RISE leadership, sets goals, budget, develops plans, and tracks progress; 
  • Leads evaluations to learn from participant feedback and training best practices; 
  • Ensures that programs are developed and delivered with a focus on equity and inclusion, identifying and eliminating or mitigating barriers to access; 
  • Engages Trustees, agency leadership, union leadership and members, and other partners in the development and evaluation of Uplift’s work; 
  • Develops expert knowledge on current challenges facing state workers and managers, Oregon’s public service system, and trends in the industry; 
  • Leads staff and vendors in maintaining a positive, supportive and highly-productive work environment.

Qualifications

Additional Qualifications 

Eligible candidates should have experience demonstrating the above functions, skills, or abilities.  Additionally, this position requires the following qualifications: 

  • 5 or more years of experience working in public service, adult education, workforce training and development, or a similar field 
  • 5 or more years of experience supervising and developing staff 
  • Experience developing and managing an operating budget of at least $500,000 
  • Experience training or otherwise engaging with workers and a commitment to empowering them to reach their career or personal goals 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Requires occasional lifting and exertion for short periods. 
  • Requires extended periods of sitting, consistent use of a laptop to perform work 
  • Readiness to work occasional long hours, weekends. 
  • Able to occasionally travel between locations within the state.
