What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Design and implement various components of the worker framework and internal tools.
  • Manage domains, certificates, WAF rules, and automate these processes.
  • Participate in team initiatives aimed at enhancing reliability, speed, and security.
  • Contribute to updating documentation while sharing best practices and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand the requirements for high-performance, production-ready solutions.
  • Research, justify, and advocate for your design choices through comprehensive design documents.
  • Investigate and analyze incidents, then apply the insights gained to improve the code and processes.
  • Suggest new methods and solutions to ensure Canva can continue its rapid growth.

You're probably a match if you have

  • Solid understanding and practical experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Terraform, CI/CD, observability, and security.
  • Familiarity in the following areas: DNS, Firewall, Security, Load Balancing, and CDN (e.g., Cloudflare, CloudFront, Akamai, Fastly).
  • Knowledge of Cloudflare developer platform and experience in developing and managing Cloudflare Workers is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS.
  • Strong understanding of computer science and engineering fundamentals.
  • Proficient in solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and responsibility for tackling complex problems and finding solutions.
  • Adherence to disciplined coding practices, with experience in code reviews and pull requests.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal.

About the Team

The Edge team is a vital component of the Product Platform Group at Canva, responsible for managing the Cloudflare layer that serves as the essential gateway for all requests to Canva. Our mission is to ensure that Canva remains safe, reliable, and accessible for everyone.

We collaborate closely with engineers working on the Edge platform, providing the necessary support to enhance performance and reliability.
