As part of our mission to maintain excellence, we are looking to hire a Team Leader to oversee and enhance our outsourced accounting processes.

Role Overview:

The Team Leader will be responsible for reviewing and finalising annual financial files for clients, including financial statements, tax returns, and work papers. This role requires a sharp eye for detail and a proactive approach to identifying potential improvements and areas for client support. The Team Leader will ensure adherence to New Zealand tax regulations and work closely with team members to uphold high standards of work quality and client service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • File Review and Quality Control:
    • Review annual files for accuracy and completeness, including financial statements, tax returns, and work papers so that it is ready to send to the client.
    • Ensure that all files meet compliance standards and New Zealand tax regulations.
    • Identify and highlight missing information or necessary adjustments in client files, focusing on quality and accuracy.
  • Client-Focused Improvements:
    • Actively identify opportunities for improvement within the client’s financial information or business practices.
    • Provide insights and recommendations that could benefit the client’s business operations and financial health.
  • Team Management and Mentorship:
    • Lead and manage team members, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
    • Review the work of team members, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to firm standards.
    • Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment for the team.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Best Practices:
    • Stay current with New Zealand tax regulations and ensure all work complies with the relevant laws and standards.
    • Implement best practices in file management, review processes, and team operations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Professional Qualifications: Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in reviewing financial statement preparation jobs to a level they are ready to deliver to clients (i.e. final reviews)
  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring team members within an accounting or financial services setting.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills and a commitment to quality control, with an ability to identify and rectify errors.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with team members and ensure client expectations are met.


Working Conditions:

This is a remote role based in the Philippines, in the Backroom’s Clark Office, working with a team across New Zealand and the Philippines.
