Description

The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer uses strong quality and technical expertise to develop suppliers and products that meet customer requirements. This role requires collaboration with external supply partners, internal supply chain teams, and engineering, working together to achieve outstanding quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with critical partners to improve quality and business outcomes, including external suppliers, external customers, and internal stakeholders such as Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Engineering.
  • Lead cross-functional supplier selection processes for components, ensuring alignment with quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure manufacturing processes enable conformance to engineering prints, standards, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes, Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) tools, and Cummins-specific tools to develop zero-defect components.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the external supply base, leveraging lean and six-sigma methodologies.
  • Conduct supplier audits to assess risks, readiness, and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Lead quality improvement plans for suppliers to improve overall performance and ensure resolution of quality issues by conducting root cause analysis, supporting corrective actions, and verifying effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Manufacturing or Engineering role, preferably within the automotive or a similarly regulated industry.

  • Interpreting Technical Requirements: Applies Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles to interpret technical requirements accurately, enhancing product design for manufacturability.
  • Manufacturing Process Design & Validation: Designs and validates manufacturing processes using tools like DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, MSA, and PPAP to meet technical and customer requirements.
  • Measurement Process Design: Develops measurement systems that align with industry and customer standards using knowledge of GD&T and measurement technology.
  • Problem Solving: Uses a systematic analysis process and industry methodologies to resolve issues, ensuring robust, data-based solutions and preventing recurrence.
  • Quality Influence: Engages stakeholders constructively, driving decisions that reflect Quality priorities.
  • Quality Standards: Develops processes that align with ISO9001:2015, IATF16949, and other relevant standards.
  • Statistical Foundations: Applies statistical tools to inform decision-making, utilizing data collection, analysis, and insights to drive improvements.
  • Supplier Performance Improvement: Leads quality improvement strategies for suppliers, reducing manufacturing issues and systemic deficiencies.
  • Supplier Quality Project Planning and Execution: Uses APQP skills to create and execute quality plans that meet customer expectations, facilitating cross-functional communication and collaboration.
  • Values Differences: Embraces diverse perspectives and cultural insights to strengthen the organization.
  • Supplier Product Reliability: Assesses suppliers' design and manufacturing processes to ensure product reliability.

Qualifications

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related technical/scientific field is required.
